Some people change their communities, some their environments. Some people change the course history- Mary Raftery did that through her courage and integrity.

Sad to see her go, may God bless her soul.
God that’s really sad. I am thankful for her work and the good it did for so many victims of the clerical abuse and cover up by church and state. RIP.
At 54, far too young to die. A woman of the greatest integrity who had the courage to stand up to the Catholic Church, the most powerful group in Irish society, and expose them for the craven hypocrites they are. She should have lived longer – she will be missed.
This is terrible news. Very few journalists change the course of History. Mary Raferty was fearless and willing to take on the all powerful establishment.
Thank you Mary Raferty. May you rest in peace.
A huge loss to Irish journalism.
Very very sad. She was a true heroine for our times.
Any statement from the Catholic Church yet?
I believe some bishop will be on the news at one on R1.
something along the lines of “i would have got away with it to, if it wasn’t for those meddling kids”?
I had the honour of attending her seminar at NUI Maynooth – she was an inspiration then and now! RIP
The church just came out with the whole “We all abused” line, spreading the blame around so as to try and dilute the shame.
I wonder does he think the moral stranglehold of the church over Irish people actually led to that abuse/punishment/spite culture in the first place.
…she truly did the State some service.
