We understand Darren Martyn (above), 25 (according to court papers but looking considerably younger in his Facebook picture above), from Co Galway who has been charged with two counts of ‘computer hacking conspiracy’, last night wrote, under his alias Infodox, to Boards.ie about his arrest:
Knew it would come out eventually… Feck. Oh well… I suppose one cannot hide forever from their past. I had gone kinda-whitehat just a small bit before my arrest, and since my arrest have worked to try “rehabilitate” self by contributing as much as I can to the open source/security community while I remain at liberty to do so. We *really* were not too bright (oh, the wonders of hindsight) and I have been regretting it since *before* I got caught. As I have said in the past – going blackhat is probably the most stupid thing you can do. I had to learn that the hard way.
Funny fact: Topiary suspected Sabu was a narc, ‘cos he vanished for a while and when he came back he *never* owned another box. He just did the shouty thing.
We wish him the best.

Unless we have laws that match the US laws they can’t be extradited.
But the US probably already bullied us into passing legislation here so they could come over and take our citizens for the horrible grizzly crime of being good at computers and showing up the FBI.
Merkins would want to start copping on about going overboard and arresting curious teenagers for being a little too smart.
“so they could come over and take our citizens for the horrible grizzly crime of being good at computers and showing up the FBI.”
1.The crime not being good at computers, its the illegal attacks and data theft they carried out.
2.They’re clearly not that bright, releasing snippets of details which allows others to gradually piece together your identity while showboating over exploiting common exploits that companies/gardai failed to patch is just asking for trouble, both from the authorities, the victims , and people that know better watching from the sidelines.
“Merkins would want to start copping on about going overboard and arresting curious teenagers for being a little too smart.”
If they were smart they wouldn’t have got caught
Still it would preferable he’s not extradited.
Err, how about the crime of hacking into Garda email accounts?
That falls under good at computers.
Some NotW journalists knew some chaps that were good at computers too.
Rather than Garda email accounts, it was personal email accounts that clever our Garda forwarded work mail into. I would imagine that the ‘hacking’ involved guessing a password or the answer to a secret question.
You’re talking as if the complexity involved matters here. Robbing a bank by breaking the lock on the front door is the same crime as robbing a bank by crawling through an air vent. Intentionally hacking into an account to gain access to Garda emails is intentionally hacking into an account to gain access to Garda emails.
Yeah, the guard in question should probably be fired for putting the data at more risk, but that’s like saying “I know yer man robbed the bank, but you can’t blame him because there was only the one lock on the front door.” Irrelevant – still robbed a bank.
The US are doing what the British did for 1000 years push there weight around they are interfering with about 50 country’s at the moment so the powers that be here will let them do as they like land prisinors from Iraq or thousands of solders on there imperlistic adventures as regards Garda files they should hire the 2 lads obviously there smarter than the guards

Maybe should start looking at what these ‘hackers’ are exposing,
http://gfmurphy101.wordpress.com/2012/03/08/stratfor-greece-irish-hacktivists-and-the-truth/
at least they did nt hack the phones of murdered children, bribe and payoff the police or attempt to hide the truth, in fact they are exposing who the ‘real criminals’ are
