More than 70 per cent of the brothers in the St John of God order are suspected child abusers and Sydney Archbishop George Pell should immediately shut the order down, says a psychologist employed by the order to meet with its scores of abuse victims.
Almost 200 victims have sought compensation after alleging they were abused in special schools and homes run by the brothers in Victoria, New South Wales and New Zealand.
Last week, a Melbourne inquiry into child abuse heard allegations that brothers had drugged and pack-raped boys at their facilities in Victoria.
Pack raped.
Pell Urged To Close Order Over Abuses (TheAge)
PM Announces Abuse Inquiry (TheAge)
Thanks Mark Geary

Yes, they should shut the order down, but of course they won’t. Their hunger for power and control is matched only by their depravity.
Agreed.
The Aussie PM has just announced a Royal Commission (AFAIK that is the highest enquiry possible) :

It will cover more than just the Catholic Church.
The stories of abuse in Australia are as shocking as those in Ireland. Australia is not run by Rome, like Ireland has been, so it is surprising how much they have got away with here.
Can someone explain why the same strategies were used by the Roman church in many countries? I imagine it is a coincidence that they all came up with the same methods of protecting paedophiles.
“Can someone explain why the same strategies were used by the Roman church in many countries?”
Because the Vatican runs the Roman Catholic church and they don’t recognize national borders and jurisdictions. One Church, one policy.
We’re ok now because we had the referendum passed on Saturday……
Ah Broadsheet…removed my comment…I was just sayin’ what the Order were up to down under.
shut them down shut them down now. zero tolerance for this or make rape legal, pick one.
Please stop calling it rape. “Surprise sex” is far more descriptive.
idiot.
Clown
Now, now, you’re both right!
I’m guessing this was a comment on their attitude rather than a glib comment.
Actually it’s a comment on the stupidity of calling for the abolition of an organisation based on an allegation being made against members of the organisation. Commenter than confirms his stupidity by suggesting that the only alternative to his lynch mob proposal is to legalise rape.
You missed this bit did you?
“More than 70 per cent of the brothers in the St John of God order are suspected child abusers”
Shut them down.
My stomach actually turned reading this? How long will governments tolerate this kind of institutional abuse, or let the institutions responsible go unpunished.
