My girlfriend was walking the dog in the park just down from Dartry Mills [off Dartry Road close to its junction with Milltown Road], Dublin when she came across this turtle sitting in the gravel beside the [River] Dodder.
It is injured, bleeding and rather motionless. If anybody somehow lost their turtle or can identify the breed, we’d love for you to get in contact.

Does it dispense cash? If so, I’ll take a dozen please?
That’s a massive fiver.
Is the fiver by means of indicating size or for indicating the ransom you’re holding out for?
there are a fair few in the dodder – they’re abandoned pets. i think the jury is out on whether they’re able to breed in the irish climate.
i wonder was this an abandoned pet which fell foul of a dog?
why don’t you bring it to a vet if it’s injured?

:(
Harsh!
Please submit your photo and exact location to Invasive Species Ireland: coflynn@biodiversityireland.com
They’ll probably be able to identify it for. Exotic turtles turning up in the dodder are a real problem: http://invasives.biodiversityireland.ie/common-snapper/
Must be like the nature equivalent of death by steam roller.
Take it to Bairbre OMalley Veterinary Hospital in Bray if it needs treatment. They specialise in exotics.
and make sure you bring the fiver with you.
I don’t recognise the turtle, but I do recognise the fiver, and would appreciate it returned to me, its rightful owner
Enjoying a break from his natural habitat alongside the Dodder, Terry the Turtle is kidnapped from his home and placed in a plastic box with a rock and forced to eat limes. His little lips grimaced with it’s sourness as he dreamed of all the vegetation in his previous home.
Now that’s the kind of lost animal I can believe in! Like a polar bear in the Sahara…
Donatello?
LoL
is it true they smell up the gaf something terrible?
If you don’t clean their tank then yes…like most animals (but turtle dirty the water fairly fast
Hi,
I am a tortoise owner, please bring it to DSPACA asap, you can bring it to the woman in bray, that’s where I bring my tortoise, but you might have to foot the bill. That’s some sort of Terrapin, but it looks like it has sever shell rot. The DSPCA will return. It could probably live out its life in the Dodder but its not good for anyone.
Try keep it warm too
it’s musk turtle.
Yeah this is more likely actually :)
It looks very like a Northern River terrapin although unlikely. It may just look similar. They’re very endangered. More likely a type of western pond turtle (according to Google!!). Either way, take it somewhere to get it checked out.

Its a wakki woku turtle from the Amazon. Im 62% certain. It’s highly poisonous and touching can be fatal. You will feel ok for 24 hours and then you’ll turn inside out.
Sounds plausible
it’s a musk turtle that some dickhead bought in a small plastic tub. it’s been misfed and ill treated for years, and then finally he just dumped it in the river. it’s probably at death’s door now.
Update: The turtle, which we have discovered is a Razorback Musk Turtle, has unfortunately passed away.
nooooo! :(
Unfortunate story all round. For the turtle, and the natural inhabitants of the river. :(
Ferocious sad that
Sure all that lad needs is some physical terrapin!!
Badumtish!!
Shell-shocked.
That is sad, really, keep the shell as an ashtray though
