The award-winning 2003 documentary On The Threshold Of Oblivion examines the infamous invasion of the Dutch village of Putten in 1944 when German troops sent the entire male population of the town to concentration camps after Dutch resistance fighters attacked a small German patrol, wounding two soldiers.
Of 602 men sent, only 48 returned home. It has been described as one of the worst German reprisals in the occupied Netherlands
In this unnerving clip, two unrepentant former German soldiers defend the actions of Wehrmacht comrades, genuinely believing they did no wrong.
