Fast forward 10 years when we learn this cost us €150,000,000 to launch and €100,000,000 was spent on lunches in the Merrion.

Thankfully their website has one of those brilliant Cookie warning notices that have so helped internet security and privacy and are not annoying in the least.

“so helped internet security and privacy”

Were they ever intended to do that?

For those who missed this exception to the Routing Code conventions:

“What will the Routing Key look like for where I live? The Routing Key refers to the first three characters of an Eircode. The first character will always be a letter, followed by two numbers, except for D6W.

Please copy the best system in use, where ever that is. Do not slavishly follow the usual suspects.

    1. Medium Sized C

There are arguably better systems not in use.

      However this is the system.
Consultation is done, regardless of what is in use, it is now how it will be.

Fast forward a couple of years. Will An Post be told to refuse to deliver post to a house where an
Eircode has been assigned but is not being used? I suspect this is all linked in some way to the property tax.

    1. Clampers Outside!

It’d be foolish not to be connected in some way surely…. unless you are suggesting it’s being done because of the LPT in which case, you’ll need a new roll of aluminum for dem hats.

      Probably not.

    3. Medium Sized C

      No.
That would be not doing their jobs.

Also, No, it has nothing to do with the property tax.

“We also wanted to avoid creating offensive or otherwise sensitive words or terms (e.g., proper names, acronyms, words) within the combinations of letters and numbers”

    disappointing…

Could never understand why Tipp had a North Tipp and South Tipp car reg..it is not like it is teh largest /most populous county.

    1. andyourpointiswhatexactly

It’s because of the Riding system them have there. Tipp’s all about Riding.

    2. Whattheyreallymean

Did you ever try and find out?

      Probably not.

The answer is the county had two ‘ridings’ (the distance a horse would take you in a day from a central point). Each riding represented two administrations which in turn developed into two county boroughs over time. Each central office was given a list of registration numbers for issuing because of course, a centralised computer server did not exist yet.

Now that both ridings are incorporated into one administration, the letter T is now used instead of TS and TN.

It has nothing to do with the number of vehicles being registered.

Any bets on what this logo cost to produce?

They obviously didn’t waste any money on marketing consultants for this new quango, otherwise they probably would have named it something that doesn’t sound like what the entire effort is going to probably turn out to be, ErrorCode.

    1. Whattheyreallymean

Why don’t you tell us how much a logo should cost and detail how you come to that figure, not forgetting to list out the process and resources required.
