What part of hi-vIz do you not understand?

“I believe it’s our function to represent human rights and justice in every opportunity we can.

“The government is slavishly adhering to an American agenda.”

“It costs a huge amount of money to carry these aircraft across and they’re not carrying fellas across on their holidays”.

“There was a time where the US searched an aircraft that was transporting the Taoiseach, so there’s no problem.”

“If they’re telling the truth, then grand.”

Clare Daly speaking to David Harvey on Classic Hits 4FM (David Harvey is filling in for Niall Boylan) shortly after her arrest today.

in light of the horrific murder being committed by the Israelis at the moment, good on you Clare.

Apparently Mick’s luggage was lost coming back from Brazil and he thought he’d use this as a chance to have a rummage around for it.

He missed two weeks in the Dail by the way. We pay his salary.

While I don’t necessarily agree with how they went about it, I do absolutely agree with the sentiment.

If the civil authorities wont enforce the law then what else is there to be done. Fair play to both

They also weren’t elected to be American Aeroplane inspectors. They were elected to be TD’s.
That being said, you would wonder why the Americans don’t just turn their military aircraft ’round on an RAF airstrip. Especially if they are up to no good.
Is it something to do with landing fees, I wonder?

I could be wrong, but i think its because when fully laden, the modified 737’s would be running on vapours. I would think its a similar story with the Hercules. Their only other alternative would be to fuel in Iceland or Greenland, in which case i don’t know if it would then have the range to make their final destination without requiring another stop after that.

Plus, Shannon’s a better landing strip. There’s a reason it was the emergency alternate landing site for the space shuttle in the event of a launch abort and not an RAF strip.

While I totally disagree with having American military presence here, this is not their job, smacks of a PR stunt.

The problem is the people who are responsible for this won’t investigate because of either incompetence or political interference.

    2. Medium Sized C

Pretty shitty PR stunt from two people who above anybody else have had consistent middle fingers held up to PR and their own popularity for a while now.

Sometimes people do stuff that isn’t their job.
I know that in modern Ireland, where people wont clean up their own dogs shite because they aren’t paid to do it, they would be outliers, but you can surely accept the fact that some people feel that taking action is slightly more useful than whinging in the internet forums or indeed the Dail.
Perhaps they were taking a stand on something.

this coming from a woman who has stopped procreating now because Mount Carmel has closed down. Sweet jesus.

ha, ha. I’m only teasing you. Seriously, you lay as many eggs as you want, it keeps you quiet.

still can’t rid of the image of clare trying to hoof a sweaty mick wallace over the fence..

    1. Mikeyfex

I can imagine him having Al Bundy-style misplaced confidence on how easily he’ll vault the fence only to pull two muscles and slip a disk.

One the first people any newly elected Taoiseach meets is the US Ambassador to Ireland. Says it all really. Enda Kenny probably calls them up before he makes any major decision to make sure they’re happy with it. No really. He probably does. Fool.

I’m going to show this article to my teenage niece, the photo of Claire in particular

If I catch her smoking again that is.

In September 2012, Deputy Wallace stated on his website that the Leaders Allowance he would claim would [quote] “be used mostly for research into different issues that concern the people of Ireland”.

    I emailed him the week after with a number of queries in relation to this research, seeking some more information, specifically;

    – Would this research be publicly tendered to ensure openess and fairness of the procedure? If so, when and where will this be done?
    – Where could I submit a research proposal into different issues that concern the people of Ireland?
    – What criteria would be used to determine which research proposals were successful in applying for funding?
    – Was there a panel to review research proposals? If so, who would this consist of?

I’ve emailed twice by way of follow up and still no answer.
I think these are all reasonable questions to ask one of our elected representatives?

  10. Blah

Their job is to represent their constituencies in the Dail.

Not go on extra-judicial jaunts in airports. Would they think it’s alright for TDs to “inspect” people’s homes for guns? Or for the SF TDs to decide the government’s policy on the North is too soft, and “take things into their own hands”?

    Gobs***es, the both of them.

  11. Bob

If only they got themselves elected to some sort of political position that would allow them to change the system within, then they wouldn’t have to do publicity stunts that achieve nothing but costing the people who elected them.

    1. Don Pidgeoni

Or use their political position to draw publicity to issues they and their constituents think are important? I would rather my politician did something ballsy like this then sit in their office claiming expenses for the 2 hours of work they did that day

      1. Medium Sized C

So you’re saying politics and political activism aren’t mutually exclusive????

  12. Kolmo

Fair play to them. Weaponry and manpower are transited through Shannon for wars (all undeclared wars) and kidnapping of people extra judicially, ALL AT THE IRISH TAXPAYERS EXPENSE!! The facility of Shannon for these purposes makes the Irish nation complicit in the crimes of other nations, no amount of ‘get with the
program’ by commercial and the intertwined political interests can deflect from the immorality of this.
