Children made homeless by the recent bombing in Gaza
Free Saturday?
Rachel Ray writes:
“I’m sure you’ve all seen the pictures and read the news about the atrocities being committed in Gaza. Over 200 children have been killed to date, thousands more injured and made homeless. I am planning to gather a collection of teddy bears to leave outside the Israeli embassy [Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin] in form of a peaceful protest this weekend. Ideally enough to represent those children who have died. If you are interested in getting involved or have a bear you know wouldn’t mind being given up please either drop your bear to the Collection points (see link below]) or come along on Saturday and place your bear there yourself. Children and all other dolls/toys/rabbits welcome. The Plan is to put them out on Saturday at 3pm.“

Saturday Update:
Outside the Israeli Embassy this afternoon.
hopefully a more militant part of the protest will hang around after and burn the Israeli embassy down along with its odious genocide-supporting staff.
Yes Helen hate and violence is what is required to solve this!
at last, we agree on something!
You may have your sarcasm detector turned off!
i was being ironic. man, you really are a tool.
I hope you are enjoying the sunshine and have a joyous day, now try to refrain from personal insult I am not sure how BS mods ignore your bullying ?
helen also an alannis morrisette-ish understanding of irony.
a turpid redundant tool at that..
Here you go Helen. You should enjoy this. I originally watched this on the Foreign Policy website, a nice movie to make your day from the people you love most. http://youtu.be/5NAhozItSq0 .
this could be your soundtrack

We’ll be looking to you to lead that charge comrade.
will do :-)
No you won’t.
will do :-)
Some more bubble bursting news for you from the NYT. http://nyti.ms/1o50Rfr Shall we head over to the Arab embassies afterwards and continue forth?
Surplus bears can be sent to Syria btw, because that’s still happening.
+1
Or any Number of African nations, or Ukraine etc
Maybe one of you three could organise with Rachel for bears to be sent to one of those places ye mention? After the protest, like. Oxfam, Unicef Ireland and Trócaire all have Syria appeals running at the moment. Or ye could organise your own campaigns for contributions to those appeals.
Or, hang on, those comments were all empty whataboutery, weren’t they?! Dammit, ye should whatabout more emphatically, or people just won’t pick up on it.
F, no whataboytery at all, simple exercise in pointing to media and human hypocrisy the death toll is Syria is 100 times the current toll in Gaza and 10% of that is children! Yet silence from these human rights groups.
Funny the pro Palestine campaign, never organised a March in 2007 or 2009 when the death toll in Gaza was substantial from violence. The difference is nearly all of the murders were carried out by Hamas, Fatah or the PLO on their own people
Its only hypocritical if you take an obnoxiously reductionist view of the situation.
And you eat your media bias when you’re told like a good little boy or girl.
Medium sized C I have been there the crimes commuted against the people of Gaza are beyond words and the conditions in which they live were hard for me to process and after serving in various combat zones that is saying something.
Sadly for the people of Gaza a large number of these crimes are perpetrated by their own forces. The scale and force the IDF have imposed in the last 22 days or so is Inhumane and that is putting it mildly! But Pro Palestinian groups ignoring the crimes of Hamas is not helping, this protest should probably pop bye the Gaza embassy and stick a few teddy bears on their fence to show that everyone is answerable for war crimes
Island boy, you’re a sound fellow. People who have never had to stand in front of people who wanted to kill them tend to not have very good perspectives on war. A lot of people passing comment from the safety of a coffee shop.
Comparing the situation in Gaza to the situation in Syria is absurd, unless you are utterly biased by the news, a bit racist or just really ignorant of the broader political cultural and religious aspects of the conflicts.
If you are none of those things, then you must be choosing to ignore how wrong it is to base accusations of hypocricy on a comparison between them both.
Medium sized C innocent children are dying every day in Syria at state of 10 to 12 times more than in Gaza, are Syrian children lives worth less of those in Gaza.
No they are not all innocent lives should be protected, their murder should be highlighted and protested against
Surplus wit can be sent here.
You are so concerned about Syria.
But I contend that you are anti-shiite because of the conflict in Iraq.
And clearly anti-Ukraine..
The bears are not being sent anywhere. They are being left outside the embassy as a silent protest.
If you know where Islamic State have their embassy in Ireland I’m sure a similar protest can be arranged.
Oh, so other than creating a sense of self righteousness it’s pointless.
Pretty cynical comment there.
I presume then you aren’t a fan of the old “silence is complicity” thing.
And there is no point in voicing your opinion on anything.
All shows of public protest are pointless I guess.
Or you’re just saying that be cause these people have a different opinion to you.
Pretty cynical affair we have going on in the west. The liberal left’s hypocrisy is palpable. Have some proportional protest for dead maimed and kidnapped Jews. Stop referring to a security wall in the Judea and Samaria area that stops suicide bombers as an attempt to do anything other than stop the above. If a death toll in Gaza is this big and merits so many teddy bears then the death toll in Syria’s ongoing war must merit that by ten. Get out on those streets, weep over candles for dead Syrian children.
Peaceful protest is pointless?
Maybe Helen’s right and you’d prefer to see the embassy burned to the ground. Or do you have another suggestion on how to highlight people’s (people other than you obviously) dissatisfaction with Israel’s genocidal ideals and shelling of refugees in UN shelters?
Not all peaceful protest is pointless.
I don’t want to see any embassy damaged, nor staff hurt.
Sarcasm was employed with regards to her Nibb’s involvement in any upcoming protest.
Put pressure on the Palestinian Arab leadership to desist in their terrorism of Israel and sacrifice of their fellow citizens.
You don’t get to decide what a proportional Israeli military response is. You’re not important to Israel and neither is your mound of second hand teddy bears, other than to create a sense of self righteousness.
“You don’t get to decide what a proportional Israeli military response is”.. Sums up the scumbag attitude of the Israeli government perfectly. International law? Who cares? Israel makes its own rules.
@All the good ones fly south for winter
Tell me how firing on a beach of kids playing football is ‘proportional’
Tell me how firing on a UN school full of refugees you’ve been told 17 times is there is ‘proportional’.
Tell me how destroying every building for a 3 mile deep strip is ‘proportional’.
Tell me how firing on a market during your own cease fire is ‘proportional’.
Tell me how bombing and knocking the only power plant is ‘proportional’.
What Israel is doing is utterly, totally and completely beyond any sort of proportional response.
Is this connected to the other march from the garden of Remembrance at 2pm? I was going to go to that one (with children and bears as it happens) but will go to the embassy instead if more suitable for children.

Today’s special sitting of the Seanad.

Ironically most of these bears were probably fabricated by slave children in Bangladesh or similar shithole
I say go with Helen’s suggestion.
I’d like to see the Israeli ambassador expelled and the embassy shut down ASAP.
It has to be Helen from monkstown
Hi all,
Not going to comment on most of the above. I will however say I am washing and drying all of the bears and they are being given to various charities – just as some thought they were getting dumped etc. If youve a charity that would like a bag of bears please let me know on twitter at @Rachel_ _Ray
Thanks,
Rachel
