I am actually glad wetherspoons has come in so someone with a bit of muscle can stand up to the Vintners and Diageo.
And InBev.
And Heineken.
Ive often thought that the Pub License system was setup to award certain groups of families a monolopy , why should a publican on retiring be allowed to pass on the license to his son?
A quick look at the VFI twitter account sees that they are pushing a pretty big ‘Support Your Local’ campaign, whch obviously translates as ‘Support your local Diageo rep’ and not your local product.
A phase my arse. Look at the amount of pubs springing up around the country due to the surge in demand for beer other than the ‘big 4’. more and more offlicences & ‘traditional’ pubs transforming themselves into ‘craft’ pubs & suppliers because the market is there.
Even the country bumpkin palate is evolving to like “other beers” most craft is produced outside the pale
I’m not an Ale
So don’t forget
It’s just a silly phase I’m going through
And just because
I brewed you up
Don’t get me wrong, don’t think you’ve got it made
I’m not an Ale, no, it’s just because…
…I’ll have a pint of what Chris is drinking.
yep pint of that please :)
What the frack is a craft beer “experience”?
It’s awesome disruption. That’s what it is.
another word for festival
Probably a temporary bar selling craft beer.
That’s terrible. Nice to see that down in Mayo, plenty of local boozers are getting behind the West Mayo Brewery…
I dislike the term ‘craft beer’ but the vintners are truly blinkered individuals whom I have no sympathy for.
Why? It implies the larger breweries dont have any craft, or put any effort into their beers :)
Exactly. The big brewers do have plenty of skill, there is craft in their work but they are pandering to the lowest common denominator, aiming for mass market appeal (bland and inoffensive) rather than trying to make something of the highest quality or best flavour.
You can read it any other way you like, but I can understand why the term craft beer is an imperfect fit . Artisan beer as an alternative description sounds a bit to pretentious, and for.the larger craft brewers is isn’t exactly accurate either.
Not much still in pushing a few buttons on a keyboard to make a few million liters of generic beer
Not much skill in pushing a few buttons on a keyboard to make a few million liters of generic beer
Good thing that’s not what the large brewries do then.
I’d safely say it’s a cartel of local pubs using the VFI to block a local brewery outselling them over the fleadh, paid for by the big beer companies we all know and love!
Small town, small mind, town stays small.
first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win
+1
VFI, wow, just wow. A ‘phase’. That’s the problem with your shitty rural pubs right there, they can’t see the big fupping woods blocking egress from their premises.
And now to name the pubs that blocked this :
1. Th
the VFI pubs have a right to object, everyone has the right to object, why Sligo CoCo accepted their objections as valid arguments not to award a licence is the key here. I don’t believe that competition against other businesses is a valid planning argument, if the adjudication is as The White Hag claim it is they should appeal
They promised the councillors “a few pints…”
It has been acknowledged by Diageo that craft beer is the thing they fear the most in the long term.
if only white hag had supplied the gardai at rossport, they’d be sorted be now..
The pubs DO have a right to object, certainly, but the VFI shouldn’t get involved then, because the, ahem, ‘optics’ suggest that the VFI are against suppliers rather than Diageo, which, of course, may not be the case, (though it seems to be)
Very good point on why the Council took this seriously. If the Garth Brooks thing is anything to go by, is this even a matter that was looked at by councilors though, or was it the executive?
Craft beer isn’t a fad or a phase, craft beer pubs are completely a phase though. Same as the Wine bar phase. There’s still a few but they aren’t anywhere near as viable as they ere in days of yore.
The objection here is obviously ridiculous but I’ll happily guess that in 10 years there won’t beanywhere near the same amount of craft beer ‘experience’ places there are today.
There’ll be pubs with a a range of drinks.
The VFI:
10 years ago they were predicting that the sky would fall in due to the impact of the smoking ban on pubs.
They were wrong. They have no sense of perspective. Shouldn’t listen to their arguments at all.
Ha ha ha a “phase”. The idiots.
When I go to a pub and see only the usual suspects on tap, I laugh.
I was in Bruxelles recently and the irritating mouthy hoarse voiced barman who thinks he’s God’s gift was surprised that I left because they had no craft beers on tap. Most good bar owners I know are stocking craft beers and are really into it.
If they think it’s a phase, then there’s no reason to be afraid of it!
Is it not the District Judge that would have decided this not the Council?
The ‘Craft Beer Expirience’… Drink some real Ale, comment on its deliciousness, drink some more real Ale, regale friends with tales of wit, eat artisan kebab(not chipper!)… You’ve just had the Craft Beer Experience
Real ale? Think you took a wrong turn somewhere down S**t Joke Creek.
If ANYONE thinks that a hard working brewer like the guys in The White Hag or any other craft brewery is going to do any damage to a few overpriced pubs who regularly rip punters off when there are over 300k customers around on a festival weekend they should look at the situation again. This is greed being practiced by a cartel as usual. The old maxim still rules in Ireland “it’s what you know it’s WHO you know”. Rock on all the crafters you deserve to make a living just as much as the established old timers.
