We all felt austerity’s bite,
But I’m sure that you’ll think it quite right,
That poor old TDs,
Don’t pay their own fees,
To set their first language aright.

The hypocrisy is just fantastic on this one.
Stick the kids in some ancient shit syllabus nonsense language course from the day they enter school until the day they leave to learn a dying language with nothing but romanticised applications for it.
Then, take a bunch of aging politicians almost all of whom have already been through this sh*t system, some of whom who have claimed to be FLUENT in the past, that’s you Gerry, and spend a small fortune on them so that they can preach to us how important it is to maintain the sh*t course in the schools.
MY F**KING HEAD JUST EXPLODED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE F**KING HYPOCRICY IS BEYOND F**KING COMPREHENSION !!
…apologies for the typo… I was somewhat agitated at the time. I’m feeling better now.
The best that can be said for Gerry’s Irish is that it is enthusiastic. He did learn it from fellow internees, few of which had good Irish to begin with. What he actually speaks is a prison patois designed to communicate without the screws understanding them.
Thanks for the clarification on Gerry’s position, still doesn’t explain why we should be paying taxpayer money like that…. and it still doesn’t justify the other five on this course.
If any of them ever come out in defence of the Irish language teaching in schools, this can be thrown back in their face as proof that it’s a total waste of time and money.
racist ignorant views clamper…
