Oh.
Childers warns in a letter seen by the Parliament Magazine dated 1 September, that appointing someone with [prospective EU Commissioner for Ireland Phil] Hogan’s profile would, “send a very ominous signal to those who suffer and fight discrimination”.
EU parliament told of ‘serious reservations’ over Irish commission nominee (The Parliament)
Simon K writes:
“The first complaint to be brought to the attention of MEPs on the 28 soon-to-be-elected Commissioners has been for our own Phil Hogan. MEPs will vote on the 28 new Commissioners this month. We’ll see how that plays out….”

Personally I would have grave reservations over him being appointed. The comments he made on travellers were offensive …
His general incompetence is also something to worry about.
Go Nessa !
The sight of him makes me bilious.
Childers is not a politician I take seriously. She got elected on transfers by people who recognised her name but knew little about who she is or what she stands for. I watched her in the euro election debates and her contribution was derisory.
I beg to differ. Childers left the sinking ship Labour and knew that they had sold themselves to capitalists. Childers is principled.
Philip is such a well rounded man of integrity by comparison.
Whatever about Childers and her lack or not of party loyalties or her being a self serving political careerist, you gotta say ‘hear, hear’ on this action of hers…. that many would agree with.
What about his 6 new staff that will earn at least €150,000 each per year??? Jobs for FG boys & Girls in Brussels..
Although it kills me I have ta say it.
Mairead MuckGimmess would’a been a far more sensible nominee.
There has never been a more barefaced jobs for the boys stroke.
But since Hogan is so far out of his depth it actually might be entertaining to watch. Although witnessing the ape contest and lose his Carlow /Kilkenny throne would’ve been better.
Even Kevin Cardiff got in the gravy train door at the end of 2011, despite Nessa’s protestations. I can’t see her giving Big Phil any trouble…
