Finally.

The re-issue of a timeless classic.

A gift to pass on to the children of the future.

Or to sit beside the Harpic in your ironic loo book collection.

Geraldine Feehily of O’Brien Press writes:

“Today is the official publication date for the 25th Anniversary Edition of The Fridge in a Denim Jacket by Zig and Zag. It’s full of ridiculously zany jokes and handy tips for life, like how to master Zogspeak and how to recognise a Green Wibbly Wobbly Monster. We Have SIX copies to giveaway to six Broadsheet readers judged the best at completing the sentence below:

  2. Beccyfitz

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like Ray’s face without a black and white teddy bear thrown at it

won’t be purchasing, caught the word ‘sissy’ on the fridge, just traded in the fixie for a real bike, really risking ostracization as it is

To my ten year old self, a childhood without Zig and Zag was like a one-off voter of Sinn Fein – ie, when they got taken from us Irish kids circa ’94 by Channel 4, it was the one and only time I hated the Brits

  5. Bexbot

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like never knowing the true meaning of an arch nemesis – Podge!

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like… I can’t even contemplate an answer because the very thought of such a large void in my childhood has thrown me into a melancholic state. Thanks Broadsheet..

A childhood without zig and zag is like being forced to listen to all of John Moynes’s limericks from the man himself until you die.

A childhood without zig and zag is like being stuck in a lift with clampers outside for 30 years.

A childhood without zig and zag is like make and do without Mary Fitzgerald.

What has Fluffy’s question got to do with the my username? Oh sure I get the period=red thing.
          Lame attempt at trolling, dude

A childhood without Zig and Zag would have saved so much earache when my little sister insisted on watching that psychotic mayhem.

  9. talkshowhostess

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like a Tijuana gypsy being cleared of the personal stereo theft…

  10. Declan

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like a childhood without 10 penny bags, Ireland being good at football and driving in an overcrowded car for a holiday in Wexford.

  11. moochaill

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like people who tell you you’re beige when you’re really fawn: just wrong.

  12. Kieran NYC

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like a childhood without Ted, Soky’s Blue Bucket, Dustin topping the charts with Bob Geldof, Captain Underpants, Podge kidnapping Santa annually, S.O.L.D (Stamp Out Line Dancing), “Bosco is a boll1x!”, ‘Them Girls, Them Girls’, zogabongs, Zuppy, “I’d like to speak to the yoghurt! The yooooghurt?!” ads, Draw with Don, Mary Robinson’s smelly feet, seeing if your name appeared on the birthday list, Ray D’Arcy dating all the women working on the show, and having a friend of a friend who was on The Furry Green Telly Quiz.

Wouldn’t trade my Zig and Zag childhood for anything. And it had absolutely nothing to do with toast.

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like missing the day when one of them said a slightly bold word. ‘You can’t say that word on telly’ said the other, ‘in fact, there are lots of words we can’t say on telly’. They then proceeded to list them. Don’t think I’ve ever since seen anything so subversive on Irish tv.

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like saying Gordon the Gopher, Roland the Rat and Basil Brush were the comic icons of our youf! I also had this buke when I was a kid but my mam threw it out. I had two mugs and my dad brought them to work and they were broken :( :(

  15. Mark

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like a dystopian nightmare where Podge and Ted finally won. Ian Dempsey and Ray Darcy would become serious political commentators, their careers untouched by the anarchy of their would-be friends from Planet Zog while Don Conroy would be drawing owls for passers-by under a Dart bridge for change for a hostel. Scary stuff.

  16. ItWasChaosBilly

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like, something we all had to deal with during that terrible, dark period in our colonial history when they went ‘over there’ to a foreign telly station. That was tough.

  17. Cool_Hand_Lucan

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like a cup of tea without milk – it’s grand for fordeners but not for us Irish.

  18. Simon

A childhood without Zig and Zag is like a Big Green Bicycle Eating Monster without a bicycle to eat.
