Croke Park, Dublin this morning.

The launch of Eirtakon, Ireland’s largest anime convention [November 21-23] celebrating its tenth year.

Organised by the Anime and Manga society of DCU, Eirtakon brings together the world of anime, manga and Japanese culture to the heart of official Ireland.

    Since when is Maleficent anime?

Surely a Disney character is pretty much the antithesis of what they’re going for…

A couple of those cosplays aren’t from an anime, what’s your point? Eirtakon brings together cosplayers from all mediums every year, the pictures and cosplayers represent that diversity well!

“Can I wear a costume that isn’t based on an anime/manga/Japanese video game?”
“Of course! While Eirtakon is an anime and manga convention, our fandom also spreads to video games, Japanese culture and other related media! Some great cosplay sources from non-Japanese media we’ve had in the past include Doctor Who, Iron Man, My Little Pony, Halo etc.”

Taken straight from the Eirtakon FAQ ;)

Seán Óg Ó hAilpín: his father’s from Fukushima, his mother’s from Yokohama. Neither a hurling stronghold.

Since when is it OK to be a prick to anyone you don’t know? Shame on you!
In this day and age, conventions are a place for us to feel comfortable, it is encouraged to cosplay who and what you want without having to deal with prats. We get enough of that outside the con scene.
    Grow up!!!
