Gerry McEvoy with his flock of American Bronze Turkeys in Sallins
‘sup?
Mark writes:
American Bronze Turkeys on their farm in Sallins, Co Kildare, where farmer Gerry McEvoy has raised some 1,000 birds for Christmas. Gerry’s company Bronze Turkeys started in 2000 with just 12 turkeys. Bronze Turkeys sells direct from the farm to individuals. The birds roam across the open pastures surrounding the farm, and nibble on apples, wheat, kale, nettles, rapeseed, grass and herbs throughout the day. All birds are prepared on the farm and are sold oven ready with cooking instructions.

“Prepared” is one way of putting it

Gobble, gobble, gobble… no :)
I’d gobble them down.
They seem quite enamoured with their Master. Is it some sort of cult?
Turkey culledt.
Do people still eat turkey for Christmas? With Tesco and Aldi/Lidl (not Dunnes and Supevalu as far as I can tell) selling turkey breasts all year round, why turkey for Christmas? It’s not as if Jesus’s lot ate it.
I’m sorry but what, exactly, does Jesus have to to with Christmas these days?
Well, at the midnight mass, amid all the dressing up, the carol singing, the anticipation of opening the presents, the
blind drunkwarm greetings to friends and strangers alike, if you listen very, very carefully, you might hear some lad in the chasuble mention something or other about some character called Christ.Nope. Still not seeing it….. Good luck with it though….. I’m off to Lidl for some Lobster…..
Panti Christ?
Christ, short for Father Christmas?
That just goes to show how ignorant you are. There wasn’t any turkey at Christmas for Jesus’s lot because there wasn’t any Christmas, until people had decided our lord was the messiah.
How is this not just an advertisement?
It’s no different to people showcasing their craft work for sale etc. Fair play to him. I don’t like turkey at all but it’s nice to know that you can buy these from him.
Ah hear, it’s a local business and BS does promote (put a simple ‘post’ up about) small businesses sometimes…. it’s not some massive factory farm or Tesco… where be the harm, eh
Agree, and if I was in the market for an organic free-range turkey from a source that seems to prioritise farm animal welfare, I’d give them a shout. Personally, am a fan of turkey and eat it more than beef, but won’t be having a full bird for Christmas.
No full bird in Ma’s house either… all the siblings have their own :)
No fowl no fee.
Deep fried is the only way to do these boys justice, nom
We’ve been buying ours from Gerry for the past few years – We also go up in October for Canadian Thanksgiving to get a frozen leftover one from the previous year. So we get to see the flock for the upcoming season. Happiest, friendliest turkeys I’ve ever seen and also the most delicious. Good man Gerry!
Fair play to gerry and co. Great to see an Irish business rooted in agriculture flourishing. I’ll be giving the a shout for our Christmas turkey this year!
Spot on. Top man, family biz. Pity about the son…
All the weights are in lbs.
Can’t be dealing with that in this day and age.
I was in a convenience store last night, asked the shop assistant for 2lb of sugar.
She said “it’s called kilos nowadays “I said OK I’ll have 2 pounds of kilos please
