What you may need to know:

1. Thomas Hardy’s classic tale of love and not so much love gets the Hollywood treatment. Again.

2. The book was originally published anonymously as a monthly series in the Cornhill Magazine.

3. Carey Mulligan does breathlessly in love very well.

4. That’s Mulligan singing in the trailer too, alongside Michael Sheen. It’s “Let No Man Steal Your Thyme”.

5. Thomas Vinterberg is directing. He has had mixed success with English language films. His Dear Wendy (2005) flick sold only 14521 tickets.

6. Broadsheet Prognosis: Hardy

Release Date: May 1, 2015

(Delboy remains an enigma. Dylan is Tom Dillon, agriculturalist and writer)

Matthias Schoenaerts just appeared in a movie WITH Tom Hardy, and now he’s acting in a film adapted from a book by Thomas Hardy.

    A coincidence?

    Yeah, probably.

Vinterberg’s The Hunt with Mads Mikkelsen is class, deservedly nominated for Best Foreign Language Oscar, well worth a watch.

Drive is a terrible movie not one redeeming quality to it. I really don’t get the hype about it. It’s a bunch of disjointed set pieces with a soundtrack aimed at drawing in hipsters. It doesn’t know if it wants to be an action movie or an art house move and ends up being nether. If it wasn’t for all the over hyping about it very few people would be into it.

Drive is a cracking movie. Like you said, there was a lot of hype about it and the marketing sold it as an action movie. The trailer and the feature are too different films which pissed a lot of people off and was a dud move.
But as an example of storytelling without dialogue, the use of a soundtrack to move a story forward, filming perspective, editing and lighting its a classic and enthralling film. Also it’s a great story of a bad man who thinks he could be good but then realises that he is bad to the bone is great, all pretty much told via facial expressions. I really enjoyed it.

Yes but it’s something about mulligans constant vacant stare with tear filled eyes while doing some arty movie that doesn’t really go anywhere that makes me think she is the pinnacle of overrated actors.
