Ah yeah, obviously. I wouldn’t really expect them to do anything. I doubt they even expected to get a chance of doing anything, hence they did nothing when that chance arose.

Alleging they are to blame for the crash is totally OTT and suits FF (as well as certain opposition parties) nicely. They had almost zero influence as the (very) junior partner in that coalition, and had a good record for exposing planning corruption in Dublin prior to that. They screwed up plenty, but it was FF caused the disaster, not the Greens.

It was a hail mary to get some effective measures in before the crash. Of course, they got eaten alive. You want to blame someone for keeping FF in power blame the sodding electorate.

“Your finance minister has no bank account”
“My kind of man, put him in charge of the country”

Utter rubbish. The electorate didnt vote for enough FF TDs for them to have a stable government on their own. So the Greens were responsible for the government lasting as long as they did, they could have left the government earlier if they’d had the guts/sense. Blaming the electorate is ridiculous

The Greens were able to keep the FF government going long enough for the damage to be done. But tbh not all of them are equally to blame, many within the party predicted exactly what was going to happen and that they’d be chewed up and spit out.

When did they disband? They were around when I was there in 2010. I joined in first year because it was free and they had apple drops.

    And therein ended my involvement.

It’s a pretty poo shot in fairness. Basically no one has said at any point that renewable would solve the problem of climate change. Certainly nobody in the greens said that. It was a simple exercise to establish. But fupp it like now we have engineers from GOOGLE to tell us we know for sure.

They obviously haven’t been paying all the extra energy taxes Ryan and his Fianna fail mates introduced over the years.

What the f**k? Besides the mess they made while in government with FF some of there policies are lunacy and they love jumping on the anti science, anti fluoride, anti vaccine band wagon. They are also libel to try and ruin agriculture in this country like they did under that fascist gormley.

    1. C Sharp

      Gormley is a fascist now?
He is really bad at fascist-ing, for a fascist.

You wouldn’t see Mussolini on a bicycle with a basket on front. They knew how to fascist in those days.

    2. Nigel

They are not anti any of those things. (Which is impressive because the latter two are sadly rife amongst eco types.)

If you think that, you need to go read their official healthcare policy documents and watch how they vote in council votes and read what their senior party members say…

Oh god no… not the Greens again. Hoped they were gone for good after their last hammering. A sniff of an early election and they’re desperate to tell everyone they’re still around.

  5. CousinJack

They’re evil you can see it in their eyes

Welcome back greens a liberal non-gombeenism non-populist political party is a good thing

    1. Odis

I suppose that argument really rests on your definition of gombeen. And I accept, that I prefer to stick with just plain ****, when I refer to them.

    2. cluster

      I largely agree CousinJack.

Their brand is badly tarnished though to the degree that many won’t take them seriously even when they make valid points. They’d better off re-forming and pushing lightweights like Ryan aside.

“300 TCD [Trinity College Dublin] students signed a petition today supporting a new Young Greens society”
    This changes everything.
What an amazing commitment they have made.

Why do the media turn to people like Ryan, Brendan Ogle, Jack O’Connor – people with no mandate from the coping silent majority!

    1. Odis

Why does Bodger always run the Bono story? He certainly has no mandate from the majority of the just about coping, Broadsheet readership.

The Aussie state of Victoria is holding a state election, this weekend.

The Greens will get my vote in the Lower house, the Cyclists Party in the Upper house. There is a party for everything here.
