I think that’s gone around 10 years. They fancified up that end of the quay years ago and put in tapas bars n sh*t like dah. I never really drank in the Lobby, though. The Donkey’s Ears was the one I liked.

Now you’re talkin’. Got thrown out for having a cold. Some great boozers in Cork. Seriously strong urge to go back for a visit. But from what aypiwe says it may have gone all fancy.

Did you know that one of the Kings of England stayed in the building the Hi-B is in way back when? One of the Georges, maybe.

The Corner House is the spot. Great pints (Murphys of course), live music a lot of nights and the Creedons up at the bar having the craic. Sometimes a girl would come in and everyone would get all self conscious.

The jacks in the Hi-B were manky. I know when his daughter took the place over and redid it, it was kinda cool. Unfortunately they fell out and he fupped her out of there and then all his usual clientele came back in again. I was never comfortable in there.

I’d say I haven’t darkened the door since around ermmmmmmm 1999 or so!
        Jaykers. I’m ancient.

      2. Where's Frilly?

        Me neither.
An alright spot in the late afternoon alright
But he was always itching for a fight

      3. Where's Frilly?

I know I was there the night before my sister’s wedding and that was the Whit Weekend in 93.

I can’t remember being back since

What’s the name of the pub off Oliver Plunkett where the barmen wore white coats? Blue exterior when I was there. Think it had a shop too. Anyone?

I went on Cork Historical Group (or something like that) tour of Kilkenny with the owner’s wife and son waaaaaaaay back when. They were very nice people. Odd, like, but very nice.

        1. Where's Frilly?

Humphrey was a great friend of the Dad’s family, also publicans, but the son wouldn’t have an’ting t’do wi’ya.

          Pres boy I think.

Aye. Christian’s, I thought, but it’s a long time ago.
My watering holes used to be An Bróg/Preachers in college, then The Oval. The Oval was a great pub. An Bróg was only really handy for going upstairs to whassit, the club. Ah, COME ON. My brain is dead. Heh. All I can think of is Fast Eddie’s. Pure class, boy.

          2. Spaghetti Hoop

An Bróg – where students would sit with cups o’ tea and English crusties would tie their dogs to the leg of a table.

          3. Spaghetti Hoop

Maybe twas. I think I’m mistaking An Bróg for another place entirely. I need to go back and re-map my drinking year in Cork bai.

Iirc The Bróg was closer to The Old Oak but on the other side of the street. DeLacey’s was down further towards Grand Parade, adjacent to the alley where Sidetracks was?

          5. Andyourpointiswhatexactly

Delacey’s was upstairs from the Bróg. It became Gorby’s. That’s the club name I couldn’t think of.
