The High Court is due to hear the case next Tuesday [December 23] in relation to the clinically dead woman who is on life support for the sake of her baby. The woman is 17 weeks pregnant

That should be an interesting case. Hope the deceased woman’s next of kin get a fair hearing. Afterall they’re the ones who’ll be left holding the baby, not the HSE.
I hope so too. But I fear the law will be the winner on the day
Oh, are we allowed to talk about this topic now after your little tantrum?
What? Ashamed to have your idiocy shone back on you? Do not reply to me ever again you absolute cretin.
Grimes was clearly right about your woman-hating too.
Yes. You hit my assh***nerve, just down from my clitoris. Now listen for once and go about someone else.
You’ve been nasty all day for no good reason and you ignore my request to leave me alone. I’m not really interested in a truce for some imaginary war you think was going on tbh. This is not why I come on BS.
There’s a bit of a want about him all right Don.
And a bit of a want too for some female attention.
Sometimes, for the ones that don’t grow up, it goes in the form of kinda metaphorically pullin; on yar pigtails.
Here is was over on this thread, making a clown of himself telling Caroline to make him coffee.. (further down the Legal fella lets him know how out of his league he is)
He obviously didn’t take it on-board.

Nothing personal Ben, but you might get some female attention in a chatroom..
Ben, that was the nice version..
You don’t contribute all that much.. P*ss off, would ya?.
@Artemis He is the type of person to stalk someone from school for 10 years, quietly fapping outside her window every night and then stab her to death more like
Excuse me?
I’m Artemis dear. Art-eeee-miss
One of the most widely venerated of the Ancient Greek deities.
No detective work involved me dear. It was only a few days ago.
Seriously. not wanting to be rude, but you’re a bit of a goon.
Join a chatroom. Seriously. It’d suit you better.

@Don.. lol
You might be right there.
Ben, crazier than a shit-house rat on LSD. Run, while the going is good.
@Artemis and Mikey I tried to run but he followed me like a psycho
I miss ABM
Even ABM, the complete loon, never ‘joked’ about being outside someone’s house
That’s some good a trolllin’
This will be extremely interesting. Again and again, the abortion amendment has been shown up to be an awful piece of drafting. On numerous occasions now, the flaws of it have come to light- despite what the likes of Binchy and the Iona would claim. While the “pro-lifers” enjoy a wonderfully principled life, the rest of the country has to try to deal with reality on a day to day basis and figure out what the hell to do with this poor woman, her poor family and these tragic cases. Was it the European Court of Human Rights that said Irish laws made women into no more than “vessels”? This case would certainly illustrate the point wonderfully.
The poor family having to go to court to do what is right for their daughter.
Doesnt bear thinking about.
This “vessel” is not a woman, and none of that weepy foot-stamping shite is relevant. If you found a foetus alive in a fag packet, you’d keep it alive. Why is this any different?
If you found a foetus alive in a fag packet
I’ve heard foetuses are always to be found in women. Only women. Amazing innit?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if it were men who could get pregnant, abortion would be a religious ceremony.
The woman is dead. There is a foetus alive in her corpse. There is no conflict of rights here.
I can’t follow a word of what you just wrote.
It’s not like it is going to change the (deceased?) woman’s rights if the child is born. Surely the father should have a legal say?
AFAIK the father already has two young children who require his full attention, and he wants their mother to be afforded a dignified death, but the ambiguity of the law has so far denied him this.
Tnx Buzz. The media just mentioned parents. Letting go of loved ones is never easy even without this sort of nonsense.
Although I am uncomfortable with the mother being medically declared black ‘n white dead yet the child being a bit what?
This whole case is a surreal nightmare. It’s one of the worst things I can imagine. What on earth is going on in the psyche of this country. Women = incubators. Disgusting
It seems the State regards us as something akin to bread makers :(
Of course. No doubt you just flagellate your testicles with a rosary beads and watch it rise ;)
In any other decent country we wouldn’t have this happening. Why are we still so absolutely backwards in this country? its ludicrous
Two words for ya: Catholic church.
Backwards? Depends how you look at it. Some would suggest that deciding not to use modern medical tecnology to ensure the wellbeing and continued development of an unborn child, deciding that “nature knows best” is backward.
Same reason we are held up as the idiots of Europe, dancing with a pig under the arm and all that, but we talk a good talk, don’t we ?
it’s happened in many other countries. Get a grip
The prolifers are all about letting nature take its course.
will the morons in Iona be on to say that nature should be allowed to happen or will they object and finally admit that they see women as vessels.
From the infamous David Quinn of Iona:

I appreciate that this might be a let-down for the carpet-chewing wing of Broadsheet commenters.
How is this a “pro-life” view ?
Surely the thrust of the pro-life argument should be to keep the woman alive using any medical means available until the child is born ?
If life support is removed, then surely the writing is on the wall for the child ?
Have they missed a trick here ?
You really are very bright aren’t you?
Don’t be a tit. If someone is confused, explain the issue to them.
THEN you abuse them.
I think he’s being ironical there.
Kill kill kill it!
When you invent an artificial womb, you can go into production 24/7 – all those extra bodies to contribute to the mass collection on Sundays. Do away with real families altogether, with their limited resources, real problems and complexities.
As an added bonus, it would circumvent the problem of that pesky a-la-carte crew who have disobeyed orders and continue to use contraceptives.
Behold the Holy Souls production line! The golden era of the Catholic Church is nigh.
When it comes to my antipathy towards the corporation that is the Catholic Church, I’m all hussy :)
Actually, the sperm donor situation is almost the complete opposite, are you entirely thick? It involves preparation and planning and is clearly a scenario where all concerned are ready to receive a child, with the resources necessary to nurture it.
So not only have we avoided dealing with the abortion problem, we’ve also avoided dealing with the end-of-life problem.
Anything to stick the head in the sand, avoid having difficult discussions and upsetting the holy joes.
The two most vulnerable people in the country today are being circled by self-interested vultures.
Those who defend these vulnerable people are abused, ridiculed and told they should keep their mouths shut.
I’ve never seen so much callousness and coldness from Irish liberals. It’s disgusting to witness those who’ve never cared for a stray dog (let alone a mother and child) opine away as if they know better than healthcare professionals who work in Irish hospitals.
and how do you know the circumstances of those who hold opinions contrary to your own? you though, are just another troll seeking to make a cause out of a tragedy.
agree with donnchup! we should have the twentie minutes of hate outside the dawl everyday until the chance ovva person is dead dead DEAD!
It’s 17 weeks old ffs. Let it go and let the family move on.
More than 99% of the people with something to say about this have anything worth listening to.
How many more times, and in how many more ways will we find new ways to be ashamed to be Oirish?
*Aargh!!!!
NOT, ‘have anything to say’, .</i@.
…have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to say…
Thanks.
What nationality would you be proud to be? I’m asking because this “lawdy-lawdy we’s the wusst!” schtick sits oddly with your occasional appearance of not being a complete cretin.
Why should I be proud of any nationality?
…something bestowed on me, rather than earned?
Maybe you’re right, maybe I’m not a complete cretin. It’s debatable.
When I’m sober I can refrain from commenting here, but I’m not sober now, and the next time I’m back I won’t be neither…and even then you shouldn’t take me seriously, seriously.
Seriously.
Take it easy, Man…Chill…
What were we talking about?
This is not an argument I’ll continue on the internet, in soundbites, ie;an argument with two losers…and at least a dozen spectators…and an argument I can’t defend myself in because I have no idea what it’s about.
I’m going to have another drink, and then another one…
My bet is on- “oh, would you believe it? there was a miscarriage. As such, we can let the woman die. Now let’s all move on and leave that law just the way it is- ok? perfect.” Or, and this is the dark option- it appears this has been going on for a few weeks already. Of course, the foetus isn’t viable yet but it’s 17 weeks now. It’ll be 18 weeks when the High Court hears this. Of course, it’ll be appealed. Then Xmas. Then a few more weeks. Then the foetus could be closer to 23 or 24 weeks. Then we’ll have a ball game on our hands. Cue all the post menopausal women and 50-60 year old men with the rosary beeds outside the hospital and the Dail. Oh to be a woman in Ireland- who by her life within the home… gives to the State a support without which the common good cannot be achieved. Ah, bless!
You’ll win that bet Sancho, but only if you can find anybody stupid enough to bet against you.
With a name like ‘Sancho’, I presume you are a Northsider.
You never know, it might just work!
Whoops…sorry about everything I’ve posted on this thread before now.
-I was being facetious about a very serious issue and I can’t apologise enough.
I wasn’t thinking.
Sorry.
Hope I didn’t offend anybody..
If I remember correctly there was a news story carried on lots of sites about people finding a dead shark on a beach and delivering its babies at it was pregnant. It was universally described as a ‘feel good story’.
Good to see some arseholes have hijacked this post and made it all about them.
Kudos.
You’re an awful moron.. Just sayin’. No offence.
*chill the fuxx up, calm the fuxx up.
Fuxx off. I don’t correct shit for no fuxxer.
Go fuxx yourself.
I make it wrionger, alaways.
Sorry.
Not you Lilly.
You sound lovely.
I had an aunty once. Her name was Lilly too, but only with one ‘L’.
-Yeah, I know…trippy.
Anyway, goodnight..
As we enter the festive season, we might think of Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus – that family wasn’t wanted by society.
We should always do the right thing. Contemporary society confuses convenience, cost and what is fashionable with what is right.
Well, well. Seasons Greetings Abe. As you can see, the Third law of Internet Thermodynamics has well and truly kicked in here, maybe its the time of year.
That’s a lofty thought ABM but if Joseph was posting here, you’d be sneering at him for not having his mortgage paid off.
What is the ‘right’ thing ABM? Surely you mean the right thing according to you. Many people differ on what is right, it’s a rather subjective concept. You remind me of the magnaminious father who insists his children go to college promising them they will be ‘taken care of’. But when they get there and are scrambling to pay the rent, he is nowhere to be seen, doesn’t bother himself with the details, the pounds, shillings and pence. There’s always a cost.
There are objective moral rights and wrongs in this world, flowing directly from the Natural Law and God. No amount of modern day philosophical hair-splitting and trying to gloss over this simple fact with PC platitudes and leftist rhetoric will change this.
Natural conception (queue distasteful jokes about our Blessed Mother’s immaculate conception) and the family based on the holy matrimonial union of one man and one woman for life are cornerstones of a harmonious, natural and civilised society. A society, moreover, founded on respect for life, particularly the lives of the most vulnerable unborn is a society deeply connected with the Natural Law and ultimately God.
That is the Divine Truth and no amount of “what’s right is subjective” will change this.
Zzzzzzzzz
‘There are objective moral rights and wrongs in this world, flowing directly from the Natural Law and God’
absolute nonsense. the rest of your thesis as derived from this statement is just as deluded. the world rarely operates in absolutes and what is right for you is not for everyone else. you know there was an 11th commandment? it said ‘thou shalt not force thy d1ckhead opinions on others’..
I used to check this site to see some informed intelligent discussions around the subjects du jour.
Instead i’m finding a bunch muppets flaming each other, get a room.
Life is full of disappointment – surely
It is, and dont call me surely ;)
@ Niallo – Personally I prefer flame wars than any amount of supercilious non-comments.
Thank you for making my point.
Yours being the supercilious non-comment referred to.
Oh yeah ? Wanna step outside ?
