It’s not necessary to compare them with the uk or us though. By Irish standards, they are right wing.

It doesn’t work like that. The right left continuum is a global thing or it is meaningless. If FF and FG are right wing, then right/left means nothing at all. Or worse it just means different from the opinion of people who see themselves as egalitarian

I think the late Gore Vidal said of the Democrats and Republicans that there is one ‘property’ party in the US and it has two right wings

It’s not tho, there’s a difference between what they’ve been able to do and what they want to do, and what they want to do is totally right wing.

FF and FG aren’t actually economically right wing though, no party that allows 24% of the tax take to be spent on social welfare could ever be right wing. We have a bunch of centrist and centre-left parties in the dail.

Check out the Guardian. specifically, the UK conservative minister for being unnecessarily cruel to the poor (to encourage them to become less of a burden on decent citizens) Mr. Ian Duncan-Smith.

Before you start slagging off, FF, FG or Joan Burton for that matter.

So does this observation make me part of Ireland’s new neo-con set?

You’ll be waiting, Daragh. Departures from orthodoxy will not be tolerated, it appears. Nice to see some Jew-baiting, too.

Is this the fanks that they get for helping deal with the problem of towel head terrorists that are a threat to Western civilisation?
You should be more concerned about open Russian aggression in the Ukraine, as the tanks and bombers roll up to the borders of Europe. Rather than worrying about the brave and necessary steps the Israelis are taking to protect their citizens, by degrading the ballistic missile sites hidden in schools and hospitals.

There’s no right wing in Ireland- unless you’ve never lest the country and have no idea what you’re talking about. In which case, sure, lets raise taxes and pour more money into the public sector!

As for number 2- there’s absolutely some truth in that, but hell, who wants nuance on the internet?! Not here. Not never!
