Michael O’Leary (a different one) on the subject of gay marriage during Vincent Browne’s People’s Debate in Charleville, Co. Cork on TV3 tonight.

Ban marriage altogether?

God damn his beautiful rebel soul.

Meanwhile…

Fidgety Fianna Fáil Cork County Councillor Aindrias Moynihan hesitates, and then declines, to show how he’ll vote in the referendum.

He’s done the numbers..

Thanks Luke O’Riordan

If we had the referendum tomorrow between this crap and the Claire Byrne debate I wouldnt be surprised if the gap wasnt more narrow, all th fear mongering already going on. can we have a bit of sense prevail and not discriminate based on our (minority) anti ssm views? Is there anything to be said for another mass…
    Yes for equality!

Broadsheet shock headline: See people, I keep telling you there are homophobes out there.

Old toothless bog man from bogland is against gay marriage shocker. Collective gasp!

The manner in which your views are expressed is tedious. Could you not at least try putting forward an argument against the proposal instead of personally attacking your political opponents?

Sorry for making you yawn. I am sending you a virtual giant furry rainbow blanket to wrap yourself in.

      1. Llareggub

Yes Ms Smuggy, I watched the show and saw that old looney drunk bogman who cannot even string a sentence together and also guessed that predictably the clip would go straight up on Broadsheet for people like you to laugh and to gasp at.

Keep an eye out for the Dublin South-Central debate, that’s going to be a mixture of SF, Syriza and Venezuela. You’ll hear a lot of; we’ve had enough, they don’t care, the ordinary working people, and blah. It should be good fun. And this show will start with some gangsta rappers and not with someone playing a fiddle on a stool.

I nearly bust a gut laughing when i first seen him in the advert., the second and third time i seen him i did burst a gut. hillarious gombeen.

Chris Morris jokingly describes the locals of a small rural town as ‘bog brained Murphys’ in an episode of Brass Eye. This folks, this is a bog brained Murphy.

I was feeling sorry for him, until he got the mic back. He’s going to be in for some shock when the result is announced.

That said, the yes vote can’t become complacent. The young vote need to utilise their right for this referendum.

someone should explain to him that the church will still be able to refuse marriage to anyone if the referendum passes. he has probably never stepped foot in a registry office so he won’t even have to see a same-sex marriage. in fact, it’s hard to see how the change in the referendum is going to impact upon him in any way.

There’s a lot of inbreeding going on in rural Ireland and south Dublin, it has to stop. Killinaskully was a groundbreaking documentary.

The low turnout at the last refereda (dums?) is a concern
If there is a big push by older, rural conservative voters (Donegal, am looking at you), it could swing to a no vote. There’s a lot of these guys out there.
The yes side can’t take the poll numbers for granted.

And people actually need to go out and vote.

Its the people in the middle between this guy and the yes campaigners – loads of them probably 85% of the vote – i would see having no motivation to out and vote – its the first time in 20 years that i wont be voting – even if the “support act” (presidential age) referendum got people’s interest, but its a non-issue – if Gov wanted this to pass they would have tacked on a different referendum that would have got people out. None of these will.

        1. Joe the Lion

Agreed. When you factor that possibly up to 500,000 younger, more liberal voters have left the jurisdiction to find work abroad in recent year. Precisely why the campaign needs to be organised and diligent.

Interesting take on it. It’s Something that’s becoming more and more apparent to me as well. I’ve noticed that there’s a lot of people that just don’t really care enough about this to vote in it (Alright regular commenters, stop clutching your pearls, it’s the truth). They would more than likely vote yes, but just might not bother going out to vote.

Thats far more dangerous to a yes campaign than lads like the guy above. He’s a pantomime villain for gods sake.

          1. Liam from Lixnaw

like i said for the 85% (i recon) there is no motivation to decide on either referendum – no carrot, no stick – they are issues that have no real bearing on anything for most folk –

          2. Dubloony

So if it doesn’t affect your life directly, you have no interest?
Would an appeal to creating a fairer society, that this referendum does affect a significant minority not sway you?

      2. Liam from Lixnaw

there are really not a whole lot of these hardline guys out there – probably only as many as people that will get married if this were to pass – I really wouldn’t underestimate how uninterested the vast majority of folk will be in this topic

        1. Liam from Lixnaw

yes @Dubloony that is exactly the reality when it comes to getting people to come out and do something – like or not

  7. Eoghany

Complacency is the biggest threat to the yes campaign. I asked my almost 71 year old dad how he was voting, and he said he wasn’t going to bother voting, because he doesn’t give a sh!te either way. I thing a massive proportion of the population will be in this category. I’m going to ask him to lend his vote to the yes crew however.

  8. Mr. T.

Half of all the bourgeoisie at dinner parties in Ranelagh will vote against gay marriage even though they say they support it. They’re like their parents, conservative petty snobs who tolerate gay people but think they shouldn’t be so vocal about themselves.

Irish are two-faced and lie about their true feelings. That’s how Fianna Fail got elected with only 10% of the vote apparently. And it’s how Fine Gael and/or Fianna Fail will get back in again in 2016.

  9. Spaghetti Hoop

Don’t want to see men and women get married either. I’m all wedding’ed out. Maybe it’s time to bring it down a notch.

  10. Ms Piggy

Nobody made him go on live national television to harangue us with his incoherence, so I think we’re all entitled to respond when he chooses to do it anyway.

    1. Dubloony

It would be a pity if this would be used to protest against government in general. For once, I’d like people to vote on the actual proposal.
