Paint It, Black

at

blackBanking fraud specialist Professor William Black this morning

Meanwhile, at the banking inquiry…

Professor [William] Black said the Irish Bank guarantee had been “the worst possible decision that could have been made” and “an attempt to bail out the German banks and that was never going to happen”. It was “the most destructive own goal in history” he said.

He said the Government was essentially bullied into the guarantee on the bailout which was made on September 30 2008. “If the banks are lying to you and the regulators are utterly incapable” and the message is that “tomorrow the world ends unless you take this action, then you take that action”

Banking inquiry told guarantee decision was ‘insane’ (Tim O’Brien, Irish Times)

To all the FG bashers, can I remind you that FF was in power when this decision was sanctioned.

    1. Domestos

FF got us the high property prices in the first place and FG tried to keep ’em high. VOTE FOR BOTH I say!

    2. Zuppy International

So why did Fine Gael promise to reject FF policy on the banks (Not-One-Red-Cent-Varadkar) and then carry on with the same reckless behaviour once they had their feet under the cabinet table? Why did they continue to force the debts of Anglo (for example) on to the people?

      FG/FF/LAB: all the same.

Zuppy surely you mean FF, FG & SF all the same? The parties who voted for the guarantee? Labour on the other hand were the only party that spoke and voted against it

…yes Labour voted against…but sure isn’t that the kind of thing you do when you are in opposition.

broughan could be brought back in from the cold, that kind of moral fortitude should stand for election! i’d always defended labour on their no guarantee basis, and now this!

god damn it, what a great guy. broughan for party leader. BOOM. game -> changed.

          2. Toe Up

Why don’t the Journal put the f’ing year on the dates for their articles and comments. Did they only ever expect to be in operation for 1 year or something?

          3. Toe Up

Helpful when you are aware of it, but common practice is to include it as part of the actual date printed on the byline.

  2. Truth in the News

How is Brian Lenihan’s Jr book doing….oh remember some time ago RTE’s documentary of lavish praise on the late deceased Minister for Finance.
The mind boggles at the bunglers.

the fatted cowen overruled him, or so we infer from honohans testimony. we demand blood sacrifice, or at least his congestedness to appear before the kangaroo court. bread sounds boring at circuses.
