Yeah. I’ve mailed Anne Ferris on this – it’s a hard thing to go against that shower of spineless no marks. I’m sure she’s probably inundated with the green ink scribbles of the Iona type loonbags so hopefully an appreciate word will counter balance them in some small way.

I think its important to release this information about meself

I use green biros all the time. Bic. Usually. I go through about 10 a month. Yeah. I know. I’ve heard it. All. And at least once a month.

Calcs, Journals, File Notes, Minutes, Diary Reminders, etc Work shit.

So the Ionas and all the other I Hate Yous’ might want to note who they might be associated with.

If they start in on the green inked letters
        That is.

Can I just say I am the Rep#1. That guy above is the16 year school politics version of me from yesteryear.

      1. scottser

i actually think that the new rep is old helen. same politics and ‘brusque’ style about her/him..

    1. Rep

They don’t vote for something they didn’t put forward themselves. I am sure they abstained last time as well. Awful.

      1. Frilly Keane

This is a trickie area for the Shinners

And they will struggle with this issue

‘Remember, most Irish Republicans, Not meself. Obvs. Would be devout Catholics.

        1. Rob_G

Indeed, some of them really have problems with the idea of ‘killing’ people – when they are still in their mother’s wombs, obvs

  1. Mike Dublin

Remember this. Vote independent next election.
At least they vote as they wish (i.e. have a spine).
And as for the abstention from Sinn Fein … Mé Féin.

    1. zynks

I won’t vote for anyone that will submit to a part whip. pathetic spineless people that don’t deserve a brain.

I wonder will the government publish the legal advice they got which said it was unconstitutional? I doubt it somehow.

    1. ahjayzis

They won’t. No government has ever published AG advice. Because secrecy or some other shit.

Awfully convenient, they can misrepresent her advice any way that suits them…

      1. Trapper

Is that true AhJaysiz? Was there not something a few years ago where Fine Gael did publish the AG’s advice with regard to organ donation? (Might be imagining this.)

    2. DT

They should. Doing so would a) be transparent and b) put to bed some of the more moronic comments above (spineless, traitors, etc.)

I have no doubt that most, if not all, Labour Party TDs agree with Claire Daly on this. But are they really going to pass legislation that they have been advised is unconstitutional? With all the rancour that would cause and the energy that would expend?
There’s more than one battle to fight in government.

      1. Frilly Keane

        Then they would have abstained

The Labourers of this Government are a spent docket. No doubt about it.

        They’re finished.

        Note this Joan.

Not one Labour TD or Minister is within a 7th count of getting elected in the next general.

Yet. Not one. Not a single one, voted tonight with their proclaimed colours. As if t’would make a difference to their constituency chances.

They’re more battered whipped and bate than a Mayo Coastline.

        1. DT

Grow up. It would be voting for something that will not come to pass. An empty, pointless gesture.

You have to pick your battles in politics. I agree that Labour should probably pick more battles with FG to assert their identity, but this isn’t one of them.

This issue requires a referendum not some attention-grabbing stunt.

          1. Frilly Keane

            This.
This was exactly the one Labour should have got right.
They should have worked with Clare Daly and got it right.

To sit 104 against 20 on a ProChoice vote is a disgrace
And a disgraceful shameful end to the Labour Party

            Mary Upton did right

    1. zipupyourmickey

it’s not up on oireachtas.ie yet but it normally does show who voted and what way. I’ve never contacted a TD in my life, but I’m waiting for the list to come up so I can contact all that voted no. Besides the political games going on there are families who are dealing with devastating circumstances and deserve dignity and compassion. To call ourselves a civilised country and treat people this way is a bit of a stretch….

  3. martco

    SO
while more than 80% of the public polled consistently say yes they agree and want this more than 80% of our public representatives say no and disagree

what does that tell you about this institution?

    fupping chickenshit disgrace

      1. Jane

Indeed. And if the courts had decided it was unconstitutional, fine, it wouldn’t be the first time that happened.

Of course, FG/Lab could have said that in the light of the AGs advice they were planning a further amendment to the 8th to cover this issue. But for some reason* they chose not to.

*pig ignorant, cruel and obsessive loonbags have no respect for women

          1. Medium Sized C

Given the government’s track record on ‘innovative’ constitution safe abortion legislation, I’m not sure it is

    1. ollie

sugar he advised fg that it was unconstitutional, allegedly. Kenny and his fellow women haters refuse to publish the alleged advice.

  4. Llareggub

This country is a cesspit. To wilfully expect women to suffer through unviable pregnancies is nothing but cruel and torturous, physically, psychologically. Or the alternative, to force them to travel so they are not taken care of by their known medical team is utterly barbaric. There is no reason on earth why these women should suffer needlessly.

  5. Sinabhfuil

I think Labour’s line is that plan to hold a referendum on the 8th Amendment. Now’s their chance to do it. They could do it next week.

    1. Medium Sized C

There were two relatively reasonable reasons posted above.

I like the latter. Election year. High popularity. Don’t do anything radical. Abstaining is a great way to not get talked about.

      1. Steve

Well then we should keep talking about them being populist pricks?? Any SF supporters on here care to defend??

Sure they have no problem defending the right of people to sit around a politicians car, but when it comes to a far more important right (imo) , I.e a woman’s right to control her own body….nah you’re alright mate.

        1. Frilly Keane

You’ll find more Republicans knocking around the Legion of Mary tonight than you ever would in the a Council For The Status of Women, or whatever IRS called now.

          Eg. Mary Mc
