Gel Hath No Fury

at

90370482Alan Kellyon a visit to Gardiner Street, Dublin today

This afternoon

Further to Anne Ferris’ expulsion from the Labour party…

“The Labour Party is a very united party, we’re very clear on what we have achieved and very clear on why we’re going into the future, and as deputy leader, I will drive that.

I spoke to Anne. Obviously it’s a very sensitive issue, and it’s an issue that Anne felt very strongly on, but we’ll be speaking to Anne into the future. I mean, this is a unique issue, a very sensitive issue.

But constitutionally, I can’t stand here and vote for something that I know to be unconstitutional. In fact, it would be against the constitution to do that.”

Alan Kelly, Labour deputy leader

He’s ‘ard but sensitive.

*nuzzle*

Earlier: “I Could Not But Have Supported Clare Daly’s Bill”

Fine Gael rebuked pleas by Labour for a free vote (Niall O’Connor and John Downing, Independent.ie)

(Sam Boal/Photocall Ireland)

Meanwhile…

I’m used to those comments from him [Homeless activist Peter McVerry about progress on the number of beds available]. I haven’t heard him say one thing positive yet in relation to anything. Which is unfortunate because many members of his staff who work with us would have contrary views or express contrary views. I’d rather if people were more constructive...”

I’m used to Peter McVerry’s negative comments – Alan Kelly (Newstalk)

What? Where does it say that in the Constitution? It’s not voting an Act into law: it’s a bill, ffs.

    Spineless tw*ts.

  2. Jane

Of course it’s not unconstitutional to vote for something that may turn out to be unconstitutional. What an eejit.

  3. martco

said it before say it again

these jumped up middle managers are here to represent the people….they voted by over 80% to reject something that over 80% of the people they represent want, its obtuse

the Dail fails to represent the people it serves and should be dissolved. end of.

  4. ahjayzis

Nowhere in the constitution does it say that the Attorney General can rule something constitutional or unconstitutional.

It’s a lie. Probably the kind of lie parties could get away with in the 80’s or something, but ho-hum the government is lying and treating the electorate like total idiots again.

No party who, when confronted with an issue as sensitive and important as this in government, uses the words ‘that’s for the next government’ deserves to *ever* be in government again.

      +1

protest & use your vote come next GE to punish these out of touch incompetents and send them back to their middle management jobs and councils where they can fix roads and argue about bin collections

Q: is there a record published anywhere of whom voted in what way?

    Choice is not Unique

    Everyone has one

And when did this Government replace the Supreme Court?

I sincerely hope the women of Tip give Anal Kelly a right daycent kick up the hole

this labour and FG govt are behaving in a ‘let them eat cake’ manner. i get the impression when these are talking theres a subliminal condescension “We know best, now shut your face and go about your business”

i await the elections with mixed emotions – glad that i get to give all these fuppers and their simpering gobshite supporters a piece of my mind but sad that there is no real alternative for a stable, secular based political party who are accountable to the people and when we tell them to feck off will listen and do as they are told.

    1. Lorcan Nagle

A guy I know who’s a member of Labour’s youth wing has on many occasions had to point out that they strongly disagree with many of the parliamentary party’s policies.

  7. Joxer

just heard what he said about Peter Mc Verry…. Alan Kelly is an arrogant man lacking in humility – His party and his political contemporaries are the reason why Peter Mc Verry does what he does. But sure thats par for the course form this govt….play the man not the ball.

    1. martco

what an arse you are Anal Kelly
you’re not fit to lick Peter McVerry’s shoes (after he’d walked in some poo)
      how dare you

  8. andyourpointiswhatexactly

It’s true. Everyone knows Peter McVerry is an idiot and Alan Kelly is a rock of sense, shur.

  9. Crank

As someone who probably would have voted Labour last time around, this makes one seethe.

    Arrogance. Pure arrogance.

Good on Anne Ferris. Challenge this farce of a system, and government. Do what you think is the right thing. Fcuk the rest.

  10. ahjayzis

The ‘negative comments’ thing is telling.

This government can only convince themselves they’re doing a good job when their goal at all times is ‘stability’ – not prosperity or equality or progress – stability. And the greatest enemy of stability is ‘negativity’ or ‘negative sentiment’.

It’s why we don’t demand a deal on our debt, it’s why we tell everyone we’re happy as shite with our debt burden and Greece should shut up, it’s why we shouldn’t mention homelessness, it’s why women’s reproductive rights are a matter for someone else, some other time – they all risk our precious f*cking stability.

Their plan isn’t to fix the country, it’s to convince the world we’re happy enough to leave it broken and carry on.

  11. Drogg

I find it hard to write something intelligent to counteract the stupidity of Alan Kelly’s comments, but let me use a phrase that i haven’t used since i moved to Dublin. “Alan Kelly has a head on him like a bag of cabbages”.

    1. martco

      heheeee
can’t wait to see what saatchi inspired guff rebranding exercise happens there…Newish Labour?

  12. Nollaig

With his Fr. McV comment, he is confusing the people’s money with his own. He has not put a penny towards the homeless – the people have.

Reminds me of John O’Donohue’s departing speech, chasting the local community for voting him out. He said that “he” built the community hall voting centre that they were standing in. Yea, you paid for that too John. Good guys, you and our new pal Alan.

    1. Lorcan Nagle

He totally put a plastic token into the Tesco charity thing one time. That’s the same, isn’t it?

  13. Truth in the News

The arrogance and ignorance of a jumped up Minister
for Water Taxes, who takes issue with the truth spoken
by Peter McVerry, perhaps if Alan Kelly spent a few nights
sleeping rough, we have reversion back to the bland and
shocked face he had after the Water Tax Marches.
Incidently who are the guys with him….is he being minded
When they get kicked out, will they still be sheilded from the
    citizens.
