The launch of World Book Day (which takes place tomorrow) an initiative ‘to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading’.

    It could be tokenism or it could be that a lot of upwardly-mobile new immigrants push their kids into such book programmes (and other extra-curricular activities) to raise their education levels and hopefully later thier opportunities, while the while Irish kids of similar economic back-grounds are playing xBox after school on the family widescreen TV half the size of their parent’s tiny living rooms.
