How the Irish Water charge bill will look.

And the very best of luck with that.

Meanwhile…

Irish Water has confirmed that it plans to send out water bills to more than 1.7 million households in the full knowledge that hundreds of thousands of those bills will be incorrect.
The company said it has to operate on the basis of incomplete information and that households will receive the bills over an eight-week period starting in the first week of April.
More than 700,000 households who are not registered will receive a bill.

aye, screw the ones who registered and pay their taxes; can’t be arsed to work, won’t pay.

    1. Praetorian.

Ahhh you’re back…how did the finger breaking go last night…you didnt call,i waited…

    2. Vman

I work and won’t pay – it’s not a case of ‘just not wanting to pay’, it’s a case of we’re already paying for water through our other taxes! We’re paying tax through the ballbag and the services we get in return are dreadful. So sick of this ‘sure, if yous can afford phones you can afford water’ type argument. When did this country turn into such a cowardly subservient nation

  2. Rep

The Labour Party are the most spineless feckers in the history of this state (and that’s saying a lot).

      1. Rep

oh, sorry, hadn’t realised that Labour had agreed with water taxes. When did they leave government?

  3. Mulch

Its this kind of waste that pisses people off. It seems they don’t even care at this point.
If they cant even fix the bills correctly, what hope is there of fixing the bloody pipes!

    1. shitferbrains

The pipes will be installed by people who’ve served apprenticeships and who know what they’re doing. The PR fluff is produced by tossers with a degree in business management or some such, who’ve never done an honest days work in their lives.

      1. Mulch

Ah yeah,i’m not questioning the quality of the work when its done eventually, but wtf do we need IW for? They are the governments debt collectors and they cost a fortune. The actual work needed is the pipes. Scrap IW, and run a long term investment programme into the water system. Then, once its in a fit-for-purpose state, look at introducing charges. Tens of millions spent so far and not a f**king tap done.

        1. Vman

We need Irish Water so that when you, the plebs, have paid for this company to set up and eventually start to make a profit, the Government can eventually sell the company off and the EU can’t touch them on competition rules… It’s for the good of the country. Probably.

  4. Freia

It feels so empowering to stand up to this horse shit tax quango, when all about are threats and bullying. This will be the first scrap of power we divest them of. The power of the few will soon belong to the many, where it will be used for the needs of the many. Keep strong, lads, our stand means so much more than a water bill, and well they know it.

      1. Fergus the magic postman

No. People who think that everything the government does or tries to implement is perfectly acceptable regardless of the corruption involved, are in the minority here. You must be thinking of Russia.

  5. Soundings

You have to laugh at the “to be paid by [date]”, nothing whatsoever happens if you don’t pay.

  6. Spartacus

Meanwhile, in the parallel universe of Indaland…

2017 will see the issue of hundreds of thousands of court summonses for non-payment issued to

    Mr. N O’Contract
    Ms. N O’Consent

    1. Paolo

Morons shouting “No Contract, No Consent” make me laugh. When was the last time you signed a contract to use the M50 toll?

Keep shouting your meaningless slogans to save yourselves a couple of hundred euro while our health and education infrastructure crumbles.

      1. Zuppy International

You owe me a million euro for that comment Paolo. The fact that you don’t know me and have not agreed to pay is irrelevant. I’ll send the bailiffs over to collect it once my mate the court registrar signs the order.

      2. Freia

And there’s that annual charge you now owe the government for walking down the street. I know you haven’t been asked to pay for it before, but there are cracks appearing in the footpath and, to be honest, we just weren’t bothered fixing it for years and now it’s all broken, and we gave all the money we’d normally have for fixing something like that to some big boys in the yard whose conkers we broke. And now we have to pay fix their conkers. I know that’s not how conkers works but it’s just a new rule that the big boys said we have to play by. Anyway, you walk on the footpath everyday, so we’ve installed a metering system to measure how many steps you’ve taken on it this month. So, pay up, €500 please.

  7. Paolo

Kinda difficult to send out accurate bills when a large minority of customers don’t provide accurate information.

  8. Murtles

It’ll be interesting to see (which we probably never will) the difference between how many have registered and how many will actually pay. And the funny part is that I firmly believe that everyone who registers will receive their €100 cheque from Social Welfare in the post whether they have paid a bill or not. The Department have said they will send out the cheque and that’s it. Given that Irish Water have got nothing right to date, I can see everyone getting paid or the same % of incorrect bills going out will be similar to the % of people getting a grant for free.

My own view is that once you register you’re in the net for life. Stay strong, don’t register, don’t pay.

    1. Lorcan Nagle

Apparently a recent poll put the numbers at 40% will pay, 30% definitely not, the rest undecided.

    2. Soundings

Sounds about right. Households receive the €100 “grant” in September and pocket that, and ignore the water bills. The value for money received on that €85m paid by Irish Water for consultants looks better and better with every passing hour.

  9. Digs

Looks great, can’t wait to pay. Irish water are going to change the way we drink water forever! Yay!

  10. somersetpaddy

According to the article on RTE, the minister signed a statutory order allowing IW to reap data from, local authorities, the PRTB, the
Revenue Commissioners amongst others. Can’t believe this, are they just signing all our rights and data away? Proves the doubters right, they are intent on setting this up for future sale against any rightminded protests. Democracy my arse!

    1. ReproBertie

Government departments sharing data = Irish Water will be privatised? That’s some fuzzy logic there. It also ignores the main purpose of setting up Irish Water which is to provide a reliable revenue stream for government (as opposed to the unreliable property related revenue that meant partytime in the boom and austerity in the bust).

      1. Zuppy International

As opposed to the annual €1.2 billion they already collect for water through VAT and Motor Tax.

        1. ReproBertie

In 2012 Revenue recorded receipts of €380 million from Motor Tax and €10,167 million from VAT making a total of €10,547 million. Would you have us believe this is collected entirely to fund water services?

          1. Lorcan Nagle

While Zuppy is overstating the point, it is true that VAT and motor tax revenue has allegedly been earmarked for maintainance of the water network since the last failure to introduce water charges. It’s painfully clear that the money has not been spent as it should have been,of course. But if I spend the bill money on blackjack and hookers, I don’t get to demand more money from my employers

          2. ReproBertie

Clearly the money spent on the water system has been inadequate but let us be under no illusion that the money gathered by Irish Water will be used entirely for the water system. As I said in my original post this is designed as a reliable source of income for government.

          3. ReproBertie

My figures come from Revenue and not from idiot politicians.

            http://www.revenue.ie/en/about/statistics/vehicle-registration.pdf

The water services are leaky, overstretched and inadequate. Water shortages and boil notices are all the evidence needed to justify increased spending on fixing the system. Increased spending needs increased funds and increased funds have to come from some where no matter what freeman gibberish gets tossed around.

          4. Zuppy International

The money has been collected for years. Where has it been spent? Running down a service so you can charge more to fix it is the scam. Health service next stop.

          5. ReproBertie

I’ve no idea where it’s been spent. Will pointing fingers and throwing tantrums about the wastage of the past remove boil notices in Roscommon?

          6. ReproBertie

As I said before, not all the money collected for Irish Water will be used for Irish Water (the troika was very clear that this was not the purpose) but some of it will (I have no idea on the percentages) and Irish Water has released their plan to have all boil notices removed by 2021 so it would appear that yes, paying water bills will remove boil notices.

Will pointing fingers and throwing tantrums about past wastage?

          7. Zuppy International

Six years? You make me laugh. Your direct line to the government spin machine is obviously still open.

Fix the water system first. Prove you can offer the service. And then we talk about your proposed changes in the tax regime. Or stop paying the criminal bankers. That would be a start.

Otherwise your Quango is finished. And the Troika can shove their “charge” where the sun don’t shine.

          8. ReproBertie

My “direct line to the government spin machine” is called Google. Just because I believe the water service needs funding does not mean I’m happy with the shambles that is Irish Water nor that I’m in any way connected with the government.

Of course it’s easier to act like I am than to address my questions or points.

Will pointing fingers or throwing tantrums about past wastage remove boil notices?

          9. ReproBertie

            Nice attempt at redirection.

Installing water meters allows for two things – provision of billing by usage and location of leaks. Locating leaks allows for repair of leaks which results in an improved water supply. Simple really.

So now, will pointing fingers or throwing tantrums about past wastage remove boil notices?

          10. Zuppy International

Now you’re just repeating the worthless promises of known liars. Identifying the scam is first step in protecting ourselves from the scam.

          11. ReproBertie

While you are unwittingly exposing the flaw in the anti-water charge argument. You have tantrums and blame but no solutions.

          12. Zuppy International

The solution is simple: fix the pipes because we’ve already paid for that work to be done.

    2. Jimmy 2 tones

It’s completely criminal what they are trying to do & for that reason everyone i know is not paying.

  11. Spaghetti Hoop

How can you bill for consumption if not all consumers are metered?

Beyond a joke now in 2015.

  12. right2waterkillarney

This is an attempt to contact those who they missed with registration packs. This is an attempt to get even more details from people. do not comply, do not reply.

    1. #Selfie Face

@right2waterkillarney we spend more than we take in, would you prefer higher taxes to pay for an ageing not fit for purpose water infrastructure?

      1. Lorcan Nagle

I’d be more than willing to have a tax hike if the money was guaranteed to go to needed infrastructural projects.
