Exactly! I’ve never heard it (in that context) pronounced as anything other than scarleh.
I can’t remember what the Cork version is. Probably nothing, as Cork people never do anything embarrassing.

My wife and her family from rural Cork all say scarlet. Is the stereotypes aimed at rural Cork people? Strange one to aim for in Dublin.

Northside? So the red line goes though those wealthy south suburbs such as James’s St, Fatima mansions, Rialto, Kilmainham, Drimnagh, Inchicore and Bluebell? Cop on. Surely the myth of the rich on one side and poor on the other is well and truly past its sell by date? Dublin is far more complicated and colourful to still be described as it was in the popular and profitable fables from the 80s and 90s novels. Working class Southside areas have always been with us as was wealthy Northside areas.

Yeah, the traditional northside/southside divide is well and truly gone (if it was ever actually there). Has been a (broadly) westside/eastside divide for as long as i’v been around.

Poor Mark, when he’s finished being offended, should perhaps take a ride on the luas where’ll he’ll see it crosses the Liffey onto the true south side. Or does his imagination stop there?

The same ads are on the green line – fare skippers are everywhere. I regularly see them on the green line, particularly teenagers.

The traditional northside/southside divide is not gone. And the Luas is proof of that. Two lines on the southside and none on the northside. The usual imbalance of resource allocation. It’s a disgrace.

      Redline services west Dublin
      Green line services south Dublin

There was a plan for a north Dublin line but the various special interests couldn’t agree until all the credit was gone.

The Dart sucks, its always full, breaks down or just decides to go really slow for no reason. Having lived on the southside for a few years near a Luas line, its by far the best public transport available in Ireland
