Broadsheet Trailer Park: Southpaw

at

southpaw

What you may need to know:

1. Billy “The Great” Hope (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a middleweight champion at the top of his game. But as his life begins to fall apart, he risks losing custody of his daughter.

2. After dropping 30 pounds to play non-blinking sociopath Louis Bloom in Nightcrawler (2014) (and getting robbed of an Oscar nod by Bradley Cooper), Gyllenhaal gained 15 pounds of muscle for this role. You have to admire the guy’s commitment, but that ain’t healthy.

3. Southpaw was originally conceived as a follow-up to 8 Mile (2002) with Marshall Mathers III in the lead.

4. Yes, that is Rita Ora @1:08. And Curtis Jackson @1:15. “Acting.”

5. This trailer contains a little too much plot for comfort. I’m not sure if it’s much of a spoiler but it doesn’t look like we should get too attached to Rachel McAdams’ character.

6. Broadsheet Prognosis: 8 Miles to Rocky 5.

Release Date:
July 31.

What about posh boys who like a bit of rough …. but never tell anyone about it.
What about scumbags who like a bit of posh girls …. but never tell anyone about it.

Oh no wait, the real question here is why you would think such a STUPID statement and ….. tell anyone about it.

Yeah I agree, well shot and well acted but didn’t leave me with anything to think about

I really didn’t like nightcrawler Jake Gyllennhaal was excellent in the role but it was stupid. Seriously going from a thriller about a deranged nutter to a bad out take from fast and furious it was just to much of a leap from reality for me.

The Oscars are a load of poo poo I don’t pay any attention to them. Bradley Cooper over Gyllenhaal, I don’t think so. Coopers acting ‘range’ spans from fart joke to smirkey face, that’s all he’s got.

I did not write ‘poo poo’. Broadsheet admins you’ve gone too far this time. I carefully did not swear it was a grown up post, the expletive I used was sufficiently masked by my own typing using alternate characters. You have gone way to far I see your posters ‘bodger’ or ‘chompsky’ or whoever allowing references to milder swearing in your main posts quite regularly. You rely on contributions from commenters to make this site work, I don’t find your over modding of me clever or useful. It smacks of double standards. I don’t have a smart comment for this I am actually disappointed.

          Ah fupp off you..

What about if you sent them a picture of the best thing ever that looks like Ireland – A scone.
I delayed eating it n all to take a photo.. mouth all salivating.. send them a carefully drafted email and guess what? No scone pic. Only mouldy pitta breads.

          Fupping administrators.*

*I retract this, if it’s posted in due course.

Oh yeah, I said piss recently and they changed it to tinkle..
            Fupp sake.

I also said dumb arse and they changed it to dumb bottom.
            This isn’t on administrators..
Floop the lots of yiz, ye pack of wee-wee kissers.

Wait, so you lot haven’t just all been writing ‘fupp’ as a Broadsheet commenter in-joke? Fupp’s sake.

I could see this word-replacement outrage coming in fairness, the poo was about to hit the fan.

Drug (muscle building/diuretic) testing for actors should be mandatory. So, he worked out for a few weeks, while taking something, hardly worth an Oscar.

Yes because that is all it takes! Making it a full time job for a few months with personal trainers and nutritionists 24/7 at your side there’s every possibility he shaped up without PEDs

The directors movies get worse and worse as time goes by. The Equalizer was probably the worst film I saw last year.

  4. Alan Mc

The boxing movie to watch this year isn’t Southpaw, it will be Creed. So much going for it being a Rocky spin off,

      +1

A neat way to continue the Rocky story.

Slightly concerned Stallone didn’t write it though. I thought ‘Rocky Balboa’ was a much better movie than it had any right to be.

  5. Clampers Outside!

Did ya ever wonder why ‘many’ men don’t get all…. “ooooh, I wish I had his pecs” or “…six pack”….. to the same degree as ‘many’ women do about ‘beautiful bodies’ on screen.

Although I believe, know, that’s changing with more young men getting the same type of body conscious problems that young women have.

And why can’t it go the other way…. why not have young women develop an ‘I don’t give a crap’ attitude like so many lads, rather than the lads developing the same kind of negative body issues as young women.

That’s a complete aside to the movie, and almost* totally random…
