Mon-Friday I am doing a challenge called Live Below the Line. It’s not set up in Ireland yet so I’m doing the UK challenge (even though I live in Limerick).
You have to live on £1 a day for 5 days (€1.40 per day) to raise awareness of extreme poverty & raise money for some brilliant organisations. I’m raising money for Engineers Without Borders-UK. So in my UK challenge for a UK organisation I noticed a defiant tricolour as I prepared a veggie soup last night… :)

Purple?
Where would you be going with the chunky onions?
While I don’t personally support this level of onion chunkiness, I’m guessing it’ll all be blended at the end.
We’re going to do it for redundant proofreaders.
Now this is bull. are you going to go the 5 days in the dark? Pay as you electricity will count as at least 1euro standing charge every day.
Jake the fat man completely missing the point about living below the poverty line. Its a shame they cant eat the irony.
Dope.
cold soup?
Hmm, it is a somewhat valid point. Lots of foodbanks in the UK have to be careful with what they can give people because either they don’t have a cooker, they can’t afford to use it or they have to choose between heating and eating.
Having said that, these ideas are great if they can raise some money for a worthy cause and get people to understand how difficult it is for people who have no money to eat well.
Exactly my thoughts. The energy required to cook the soup for far exceed the weekly budget. If your going to try these feel good 1st world challenges, at least emulate it correctly.
At least she is making a contribution, rather than being a f**king keyboard warrior and pissing all over everyone elses efforts with stupid semantics.
Hardly, if she boils the soup for two hours perhaps but if she just does it at simmer in a good pot all in all about €1 tops.
However if she makes stock as well …
Otherwise the soup like your post will be tasteless
Boil a soup, spoil a soup.
Get on down to Meath St and load up on veg and meat. Easily done on 1.40 a day if you buy the whole 7 day’s worth in one go.
All done & dusted, thanks for the plug last week Broadsheet! Got the story into a newspaper, 3 online articles & 2 radio shows thanks to this post. Lots of awareness raised for Live Below The Line & much-needed funds for some great organisations. How about an Irish branch in 2016….?!
