constantly amazed and depressed and amazed…
thinking back about Moriarty and despite its findings how (redacted) has just continued to truck on ably and blatantly assisted by his stooges in Govt. presumably Enda had better things to do this weekend?
just how utterly “normalized” it has all become…if this was the US he’d be serving 30 years at this point…but its not the US, its the banana republic of Ireland sadly and we’re all feeding (redacted)’s bank accounts and will continue to do so for a long time to come unless there is a proper shakedown

there is ONE thing I think that we all can do and that’s to boycott anything (redacted) and his family are connected with….I’m already getting my fuel elsewhere

At first glance, I thought “Linda and Jake” were yet another lesbian couple “going public” to “tell their story” (about 50 years after the feminist revolution) about oppression against the theocracy, blah, blah, blah and how their lives would be so much better if the people around them just “accepted us for who we are” (including plug for LGBTQ* mental health “awareness” charity with State funding).

You always have to assume the worst with the Irish Times.

    1. Lilly

Most people would know at first glance that Linda tends to be a girl’s name and Jake a boy’s. I suppose you’d prefer Benedict and Clement but what can you do.

You folks got a shout out in McDowell’s IT opinion piece this morning. Is it ok to say congrats???
    Anyway…congrats.

    Keep up the good work

Also in this news story on privilege: http://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/oireachtas-sources-believe-catherine-murphy-did-not-break-dáil-rules-1.2231523

“It is understood William Fry on behalf of their client Denis O’Brien considered making a High Court application yesterday. But by yesterday evening, when the duty judge left the Four Courts, no such application had been made.

“It is understood the application was contemplated in relation to the publication by the website Broadsheet.ie of the full statement made by Ms Murphy in the Dáil about Mr O’Brien’s finances. It was contacted by solicitors on Thursday and asked to remove the post, claiming it was in breach of the High Court order in O’Brien v RTÉ.

“The site was given a deadline of 7pm, but did not remove the post.”

          Deadline?

Maybe the administrators are on holidays, having the lols and haven’t seen the email yet..
          Awe diddums Denis..

Must message a few pals to repost the text of the proceedings.
*Not just the link to here Mr Streisand. The text itself.

Regarding the headlines.. if he can’t see the effect his bully boy tactics are having, he’s really not much of a bright spark at all at all.

          1. No

            That’s not how it works.
Never has been, never will be.

            Normal rules don’t apply.
            Sorry.

Yay for Broadsheet! The only media outlet in the country to respond with intelligence and courage to O’Brien’s nonsense. Take a bow.

    1. Anne

      +1

Along with all the fluff of doggie pics and the art and cultural stuff, this place has really always been a notable news site.
I’d go even further and say you’re frequently getting information here, that you wouldn’t get elsewhere..

In relation to Catherine Murphy’s revelations of DOB’s arrangements with IRBC, I’ve a feeling there’s a lot more information to come out yet.
Almost 1 billion in loans he had.. with a state owned bank. This is our business.

      1. scottser

Yeah, i tend not to believe anything until i’ve read it here. Nothing is real until clampers moans about it or mani’s shagged it.

        1. Joe the Lion

To be fair Phoenix reveal a little of these stories before anyone else. But Broadsheet has brought it to a new level

  4. Lilly

And who in their right mind would ever buy the Indo again – leading as they did with a story about a football manager when our very democracy is at stake. They could have had a lame stab at it if only for the sake of appearing like a newspaper. Farcical.

  5. Truth in the News

This is a defining moment in the freedom of speech, and while Michael McDowell
might not be everyone’s favouite, his concise argument, precisely defines the
issue…..he has not been afraid to mention “Broadsheet” which RTE was reluctant
to do yesterday morning…….This will bring Kenny down, he now resembles Neary
Who knew in Government and IBRC that preferential interest rates were given, that there were debt write down’s…..if not, why not.
This is more explosive than all the previous scandals and then add in the attempt
to stop the people finding out, by trotting down to the Four Courts, which in hindsight detonated charge…….the “Emperor has no clothes” it took Catherine
Murhpy to tell us, long may she live and serve in Dail Eireann.

    1. Lilly

+ 1 Enda Kenny’s goose is cooked. And all that change, transparency and accountability he promised us. New politics indeed.

    2. Joe the Lion

Agreed – great precise article by McDowell hard as it is for me to admit that :)

Lucinda could be a big winner here

  6. Mysterymeat

I don’t understand why the Taoiseach is the only one that can recall the Dáil when it’s in recess. Surely that makes yet further mockery of the supposed separation of powers between branches of government, when the head of the executive has veto over when the legislative sits?
Surely a Taoiseach could decide never to recall the Dáil, and carry on alone?

    1. Lilly

He’s probably on his holidays in Crossmolina. Can’t have a mere threat to democracy interfering with that, wha.

  7. Lilly

I can’t help wondering about William Fry solicitors in all this. O’Brien thinks he can single handedly overturn the Constitution without so much as a pesky referendum so I’d have to conclude he’s not too bright. But they know he’s on a hiding to nothing on this one so why haven’t they advised him accordingly? Are they just trying to screw a fat fee out of him?

  8. More_Bermuda_than_Berlin

Fair play to Broadsheet – this new media thing might just take off yet.

How soon before Redacted makes an offer to invest in your little Internet news outlet?

  9. Truth in the News

Enda Kenny has a fancy House in Kerry, he would not be seen dead in
Crossmolina, anyways he’d have to contend with the widespead opposition
to Wind Farms and the Pylons that go with them, around the area.
He will soon have plenty of time for a sojourn in Kerry….there would be not
much welcome in Mayo……look at the state of his home town and the rest
    of Mayo.
