While you Zzzz.

You may remember me from covering my story last October. I was the designer for the first tech project to launch through Irish Kickstarter. It can be hard for young Irish designers to get a break and so I hoped you might like to follow up on the story
Firstly, the crowdfunding campaign was successful and raised €44,430.
And secondly I’m very happy to say that Z-Charge is now for sale here. Thank you all.

Well done on your project. I’m sure it will be handy for many (albeit not me as I only charge 1 sole item by the bed). Just one observation though, and maybe this is my child of the 80s electric blanket paranoia breaking through, but I was struck by the lack of any “safety” blurb on your website. So where you have those boxes for “Durability”, “Flexibility” etc, I was expecting a “Safety” one. I wonder would that be something useful? Or am I just a bit too paranoid about anything remotely blankety attached to a socket!

All plugs lead to one…. switch… took me a while to organise it right. Now I can turn off everything in the sittingroom (bar UPC broadband box) with one kick of a foot switch!

When I think of it, I hit the socket switch. The HSE has a rake of guidelines on fire safety and it mentions, electric blankets, phone chargers etc. Maybe they are accounting for that tiny tiny probability that something might happen. But certainly, regarding any kind of electrical device and fabric, I think some might have concerns. These may well be alleviated by a wall placed “Safety” spiel regarding this device.

Not a good idea! A lot of devices get warm when they are being charged and it poses a fire safety risk. I wouldn’t be putting them in a blankey!!

Not really, it goes to both sides of the bed and look at what comes in the box. I thought from the pic, it was just a few pockets.

      Best of luck with it.

Was all set to buy til I saw that price – €80?! I’ll wait til the cheap version turns up in Tiger or something…..

‘The Zz Charge will compliment our new product, the Mmmm Pouch, a cloth trough that you place at the end of your bed so you can have access to your favourite snacks without the inconvenience of motion or dignity of a plate. By the end of 2015 we hope to complete our range of products with the Piss Take, which is a trendy plastic catheter that take up to two litres of urine’

True, but the magazine version could hold the larger devices, though maybe not an iPad standard.
And who doesn’t have a spare hub lying around?

Ah here, 80 blips is a bit on the steep side.

Considering that all the cables seem to be female USB connectors so you don’t even get a range of charging options and you have to use your own cables to connect to the unit, 80 euros is very expensive.

Fair play to himself, but it’s a pouch with a USB hub. This is a 20 quid product with lipstick

Too expensive for starters…. and if you feel the need to charge six devices either side of the bed you’re doing some thing wrong in your life….

…like buying stupidly-over-priced-useless-battery-life-products-from-overhyped-brands-with-no-real-discernible-USP-anymore-to-warrant-the-expensive-prices, like those products from Apple.

    WTF.. 80 bleedin yoyo’s…
Must be aimed at the compulsive apple accessory buying addict types with more money than sense.

I remember seeing this before and thinking fair play hope it goes well, will prob. get one, support the local business etc. but It’s just a giant fancy oven glove with a USB hub, with no NFC, Dock, Short Cables, high cost, Jersey?… Ahh.. Forget it..

I’d prefer not to be that attached to the techy gizmo’s anyway and having a mix of Electrical, Mobile,WiFi, Bluetooth signals near the organs while sleeping is not a good idea regardless of what any safety study says.
