This afternoon.

Independent TD Catherine Murphy questions the government’s “authority to hold office” as it attempts to push through Irish Water amendments to the Environment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2014.

If these amendments are forced through then there is a real need for some public disobedience. Simply not paying clearly isn’t getting the message through to the government. The vast majority of people are not happy with this disaster of a utility company yet the government think they can just steamroller laws in when things don’t go their way. It’s disgusting

Who says? You’ll get your opportunity at the next election. Doubtful that anti democratic people will accept the democratic mandate of the next government either…

It’s only a thin veneer of democracy we have here. Getting more votes than the other shower in the competition to be a TD isn’t a license to act the bollix for 5 years.
We should have a mechanism for firing them, rather than waiting for their 5 year contract to expire.
In the absence of such mechanism, if the majority of people simple refuse to give in to the excesses of the government, that is not undemocratic.

Well done Deputy Murphy. The country is proud and appreciative of your sterling work. Even if some people may not agree with you (there can’t be that many!?) credit must be given for your work rate at the very least.

The way to sink Irish Water is simple, The courts can’t cope with mass non payment to issue attachment orders. They said so about 2 months ago. So Keep Calm & Don’t Pay ………again.

So refuse collection, new motorways, local property tax, water supply are all now paid for separately from your income tax. But income tax is not reducing to reflect this. Soon, it will be more or less compulsory to have health insurance too. And still our income tax will not reduce to reflect this.
