An unusal one. I am driving with my fiancée around the Ring of Kerry and beyond this weekend (she is Spanish and this will be her first time in Kerry)…thing is I have been trying to extract appropriate sounds from my 2009 iPod but everything is poo, sad or inappropriate [‘Smack My Bitch Up’ anyone?]. Can your readers help me compile a suitable ‘mixtape’ to soundtrack the journey….No Enya, no messers, etc.

Anyone?

Update: YouTube links and whatnot welcome.

The scores from either LOTR or Hobbit or both, by Howard Shore. It’s pretty full on cinema-photographic when driving through dramatic scenery.

Why don’t you just put your phone away, use your imagination and enjoy the trip with your wife to be instead of asking a bunch of strangers.

Clearly the foundation their relationship is built on is their lack of fluency in each other’s language.

No messers, eh, get the boat, Tiernan! Maybe get her a pillow and a blanket, sounds like she’ll be falling asleep a bit on this trip.

I’d recommend the classic, “Quiero follarte por detras”. I’ve found the Spanish ladies love it.

  6. Fionn

I’ve found The Storm by Moving Hearts an unbeatable classic for such whest of Ireland drives

Stick on La Primavera del Invierno, from La Maravillosa Orquesta del Alcohol. Not a dud track on the album and you’ll get extra points for being up to date with your Spanish folk-rock.

Pick something mellow that yee both like and that doesn’t distract from the surrounding environment.

Yeah, techno is probably not the best choice really.

This is serious stuff come to think of it… it could be a deal breaker. I once went on a long drive with a guy I was dating.. First CD he put on was Garth Brooks..when I said I really wasn’t into Garth Brooks, as in I’d prefer to be walking off there over them cliffs if he didn’t turn it off, he put on Meat Loaf.. Fupping Meat leaf. Then it was Bon Jovi. I didn’t see him again.. ever. Sometimes I thank god for unanswered prayers.. get ta fupp. Not a hope.

I’m sure you could have figured out all that before going on the actual date no? How did this date get scheduled?

Clamps i never had you pegged for an industrial metal fan. Maybe try NIN next time has a slightly more romantic fry to it in the industrial scene.

I was, still am, a trash metal fan… a lot of that ‘new’ metal variants that came out from the mid90s on passed me by, but I still find the odd track :) Loved JBMYH first time I heard it, still do!

Have you heard of Drenge, two young brothers from the UK… bleedin’ deadly sound live! Plenty of their stuff on the youtube :)

    Hello Mr. Tiernan,
If you’re comfortable divulging such info, perhaps you could say what kind of music she likes. Or what music would be an absolute no-no.
