It’s crowded and bunched up there.
Poor example to use.
Same people who’ll be waiting in front of the cars for the traffic lights to change, while the drivers hoot and go crazy.
There’s nothing wrong with cyclists using the Advanced Stop Boxes. That’s what they are there for.
You mean the boxes that motorists often proceed into?
Maybe it is time for this: https://youtu.be/qOOkulufEgA
Then the drivers will hark back to the days when cyclists broke the lights
And round and round we go !
Did a cyclist take this?
Guarantee you that before long motorists will be moaning about all the cyclists getting in their way when the lights go green.
mustn’t have been enough traffic on the site today – deploy the cyclist clickbait.
Nonsense.
There’s plenty of bridges and junctions where traffic ensures cyclist wait for green light.
Actually, the problem around that area is the drivers who want to turn left are usually in the bike lane.
As a cyclist In New York. I was fined $400 for cycling through a red light. (Which I contested and was raised to $500) so these news laws and fines, in comparison seem very reasonable in comparison, especially in a smaller city that’s more easy to Navigate.
Jumped a red this morning. Police car on the other side. Looked driver straight in the eye. #enforcement
Mad lad Bruce. Best keep the Garda-flirting to a minimum and your eyes on the road though, lest you end up a red smear.
I cycled a bit in Manhattan and found it much easier to get around than Dublin.
the new enforcement laws for cycling are a nonsense when poor to no provision for cyclists is made in our cities.
Cyclists need to shut down metropolitan areas to highlight the absurdity of the situation. Slavish obedience en masse of these new laws would be a good start. They did it in Holland and managed change https://bicycledutch.wordpress.com/2011/10/20/how-the-dutch-got-their-cycling-infrastructure/
Wonder how many cyclists will dismount and cross junctions as pedestrians. Or could they be fined for that too? It makes sense to do it at really long-wait junctions like George’s St/Dame St, O’Connell Bridge/Westmoreland St, or Richmond St/Adelaide St, or for pedestrian crossings with no pedestrians crossing at the time.
Or will this be interpreted as ‘cycling without reasonable consideration’?
Separately, after seeing the video of a cyclist getting pushed into a ditch somewhere in Ireland yesterday, I think it’s time for more group-cyclist actions, such as critical mass.
Totally agree, I’m already hopping off and walking around a corner to highlight to motorists how pathetic it all is. Maybe we’ll get laws like Holland and France that make a bit more sense and aren’tjust laws for cars slapped onto bikes.
No cyclist should be allowed on a public road without either a driving license or a separate test. There is no point darting out in front of a Luas then blaming the driver so why should other non cyclists including pedestrians, automatically be at fault?

Jesus wept
HAHA – Be careful what you ask for motorists, you might get it !! If my fellow cyclists start “obeying” the rules, the poor oul motorists will find themselves surrounded by cyclists and unable to make any kind of progress.
