At time of writing there are only three papers here,
The Examiner – Headline – ‘Guns in rural homes to deter thieves’
The Oirish Daily Mail – Headlline – ‘So Is this the price of Garda cutbacks?’
The Oirish Sun – Headline – ‘Thugs left my Bro to die.’
Who decides what to scare people with, day to day?
Who does that?

The illuminati, of course. You really need to pay more attention to the internet.

We have 240 Gardaí per capita here which is comparable to our near neighbours and appropriate given the country’s isolation.
However, we have a lot of houses scattered randomly across the countryside, elsewhere homes tend to be clustered in villages and towns making it easier to monitor and defend.
People cannot generally defend themselves with guns, they will be half-asleep and not combat ready, very few can be psyched-up constantly alert and no doubt these few will relish their Dirty Harry fantasy, because it is a fantasy, the rest will have to retreat.
This call to arms is a tactical mistake- comparative studies have shown the increase in murder and multiple homicides with gun ownership is measurable even in countries like Switzerland.
Courts give very light and suspended sentences which means Garda are running after the same scumbags they caught 3 months earlier.
Gards spend half their time in courts.
The ratio is less relevant than the waste of resources.
Prisons are holiday camps for these scumbags who have too many rights.
They should come out either broken or reformed. They should be given clear choice each week.
When the judiciary is failing its citizens you will see people calling for guns, which is madness.

What guidelines do the judiciary follow?
Have we tried reform programmes?
Who else has reform programmes and how is this reported in the popular media?
Everybody’s somebody’s scumbag.

Reform the judiciary first. Longer sentences. Build new prisons.
For prisoners who play ball, they get the Scandinavian prison model and a chance to reform. Other option is Alabama style prison chain gangs. Weekly televised gladiator battles at the chain gang prisons can foot the bill. A H.A.L computer can decide with an algorithm who is likely to have a chance of reform.

When America entertains us all with their latest kill spree what they fail to mention is that most multiple shootings are of ex-partners and extended family.

Don’t even bother with your anecdotes; I only want references and comparative studies with grown-up countries.
