          Nice one TheDude.
I smiled, and I’m a miserable b’stard at the best of times.

if you would just bring the cup back you’d get your deposit back. a conceptual bridge too far for many irish people though. better to just chuck it on the grass and then complain about them ripping you off for 20c.
its the zero sum game, we play it a blinder

Indeed, and in most countries, where the ‘cup’ would be made of something more substantial than phlogiston, it would be possible to hold on to the cup unbroken. I suspect however that the3 or 4 I’ve managed to acquire will be in a sad state by Monday.

I would have assumed you bring the cup you just finished back when ordering a new one. At the end then you are left with perhaps one cup you maybe will be too tired/drunk to recycle.

He didn’t. You can’t compare like that. It’s like saying I paid €4.35 for my pint so you’ve charge me the equivalent of 3 cans.

        1. jonotti

I’m comparing beer for sale in a pub with beer for sale in a pub. You’re going to spend 40 quid in those things before you get a buzz going.

            janotti,
ja not tink you should shut your big gob until you have something worth saying?

You’re making a show of yourself.
People are laughing AT you, not WITH you.

            Just sayin’…

I honestly don’t really get the whole “check the pricelist before you drink here” brigade. Is the point not that some places are charging a stupid amount of money for drinks that would be a third of the price anywhere on the continent? The rip off culture is booming lads.

    1. Anomanomanom

Nobody has ever been ripped off in any pub. The price is the price because the vast majority who go to places like this have no problem paying it. It can’t be a rip off just because a minority feel that way. I personally wouldn’t pay it but if did iv chosen to so it’s not a rip off.

you’re my new most hated commenter on broadsheet. i have a strong feeling ur the same f***wit behind irish voice, you have loads of similarities.. like awful grammar, spelling, etc. being a complete @rse, being closed minded, against everything.. and so on. im enjoying how immensely dumb all your posts are.

        1. Anomanomanom

I don’t know what irish voice is. And you must new here or you would know iv stated hundreds of time that i am not checking grammar on a glorified message board. And I’m not against everything, you just don’t like the truth.

they’re expensive in the off licences too. 3.75 or so in whelans, 4.50 in deveney’s rathmines. there is a higher margin on craft beer.
however, the beavertown beers are very tasty and I dont personally see a problem with spending more and drinking less. its not all about price per litre.
as well as this, there are cheap bars and there expensive bars. you can go and drink €4 pints in the portobello of its all about the price of the pint.

    1. TheDude

Yep and $ to € exchange rate isn’t helping matters. Local stopped selling Founders on draft due to price increases related to exchange rate

    1. D2dweller

Most pubs in Ireland don’t have the buying power of being able to purchase a dozen pallets at a time…

Can’t compare weatherspoons to other irish pubs. Chalk and cheese

  3. Claytron

This stuff is €4.50 a can in the offie.
If you’re ordering it in a fancy-ish restaurant/bar that’s hardly the worst mark up.

    Still though, great post. 10/10.
