…good riddance…did loads of work with the Ballymun Regeneration people out of the old Corpo…can’t believe it’s nearly 20 years ago.

I was in a Ballymun flat once.
It was way back when they were brand new, 19-something.
At the time they seemed like something out of the Space-Age.
-You got in a (spotlessly clean) lift to get to your door.
-Your heating came up through the floor.
-Everyone was very friendly.
-It was ‘The Future’.
I’ve always wanted to go back and see how things progressed, but never found the time.
Too late now I suppose.

Strangely enough, the only person I still know who lived in that flat was a newborn baby at the time, and the primary reason I was dragged along on a visit.
She lives on my road now, as far from Ballymun as you can get without living near a shop that sells black wellington boots.
She’s doing well for herself

I’m shocked they didn’t leave one block in place & refurb it.
Those towers are an important part of the social, cultural & historical history of Dublin.

I agree.

*social, cultural & architectural history
Obviously.
As opposed to historical history.

-Don’t be daft. That’s all in the past. Nobody cares about that stuff.
Bottom line, if it can’t be misappropriated and/or easily adopted it’s a non-mover.
Nobody needs facts.

“Nobody needs facts.”
Is that a fact?

Lived there as a kid in the 80’s……The under floor heating WAS exceptional. Couldn’t vouch for the rest though.

‘Memories‘, eh?
You keep using that word, but I don’t think it means what you think it means.

The IFI Archive at Lunchtime is currently showing a film dating from about 1970 or so, documenting the building of the flats. The narrative is rather cheery. Worth a look if you have half an hour to spare at lunchtime in town.

I watched this video afterwards and found it very sad.
