Further to the homeless situation in Ireland…

Conor McGregor writes:

“Tonight I will be in The Foundry in Waterford. Saturday, I will be in the Savoy in Cork. Monday and Tuesday, I have gathered my team-mates for a Q and A in the Wright Venue in Dublin.”

I am donating €50,000 from these events to help boost resources of those who are fighting the homeless crisis in Ireland, as we head into the colder weather. €25,000 will go to the hard-working Simon Community homeless charity. This €25,000 will fund the mobile health clinic for a full year so the people in need can get the treatment they need, when they need it.”

“The other €25,000 I will donate to Focus Ireland which will go towards the Family Services Division which helps family’s in crisis move on from homelessness.”

I put time into researching both the Simon Community and Focus Ireland charities. The work of both these organisations is unparalleled with the homeless crisis in our country.”

“We have put together a four-day event across the country. Meet fans. Have some fun. Celebrate life, and also help build money to put towards this major crisis we have in our country. See you at the events!”

FIGHT! YAY!

Ya good on him. I had a go at him on the42 a few weeks back for being vulgar and talking about how much he earns; it’s really my only problem with him. But this is a step in the right direction in that sense.

Can someone let him know I think he’s sound again?

Ah come on, the mouth is all part of the fun of those kinds of sports. You aren’t going to be very entertaining or make much money with it. I love it, he is a great trash talker.

I’m not surprised you find a boring self-aggrandising windbag to be a kindred spirit alright

          1. Don Pidgeoni

There’s only one boring self-aggrandising windbag and it’s you and your stalking. I’ll keep a tally. This must be at least no. 12.

What i meant was him talking about how much he earns per fight compared to others is vulgar, he can trash talk otherwise all he wants as far as I’m concerned. You can be a winner and wind up opponents and never talk money. Just my personal opinion on it. Bita class along the way like.

True but that’s how these sports, well any sport is going, rightly or wrongly, though I prefer the old school trashings. Your success is defined by the wodge of cash in your pocket as well as the number of bouts you’ve won. I mean, look at Mayweather? A complete a**hole of the highest order but one who carries around sportsbags full of cash. There isn’t a way they wouldn’t use it to intimidate their opponent if they thought it would work.

          2. Mikeyfex

Oh for sure. I’d never tell anyway how they should think or what’s wrong with what they think and what what they think I think makes them…

@Don, ya Mayweather and Pacquiao was precisely the example I used a few weeks back actually. I’m going to support McGregor cos he’s Irish and Irish trained, so I’d rather he conducted himself more like Pacquiao than Mayweather, I think that’s fair enough of me. It’s only an issue I’ve mentioned because I like everything else about how he does business i.e. very successfully

          4. Dόn Pídgéόní

Fair enough. He might calm down once he has a few more fights under his belt as well, you probably need to talk the talk more in the beginning when you have something to prove.

The best bit about Mayweather is how no one has ever called him out on his domestic violence apart from Ronda Rousey (she is amazing). People treat him like some kind of god rather than a scumbag. Though people do the same to John Lennon and he was a nasty piece of work too. Guess that’s fame for ya!

I really don’t get how people get so pished off at fight hype. The chap you see on MMA stuff is a television character.

He’s an utter tosser but, nobody has to give away money and that amount will help a lot so fair play.

      1. Anomanomanom

Well i have personal experience with him and honestly none personally bad but, the accent is completely false he does not talk like that or anyway near as articulate as that, he never mentions how he had the time to train because he was on dole doing nothing else and the first thing he does when he wins a bit of money is slag of working class people by making a laugh of plumbers, he was training to be one. I could go on on.

        1. ReproBertie

“the accent is completely false he does not talk like that or anyway near as articulate as that”
Well of course it is. He has a very scripted persona that he uses all the time. (I sometimes wonder if his careful pronunciation and lack of contractions is to allow for the audience in countries where English is not the first langauge but anyway.) When you hear him interviewed after a heavy workout or after a fight the fancy mannerisms are gone.

When did he slag off plumbers? I do remember him talking about sitting outside the sites waiting to go to work and seeing the other lads arriving in with bad backs and what have you and saying “this isn’t for me” which is not the same as slagging them. I also remember him talking about signing on when he won knockout of the night at his first UFC fight.

All that said I can completely understand why people don’t like him. Personally I have nothing but respect for the guy. He got where he is through hard work and dedication and he’s dragging other people along with him and now, off his own bat, he’s helping the homeless. Top man.

only issue I have is with Simon community who rehouse total anti social wasters that have been evicted by LA’s and whom the HSE wont deal with either, they typically put these people into random places where they continue with their anti social ways of life.

  3. Casey

Fair dues to him. That is how to play the game.

Someone this considerate can talk whatever poo he wants to about anything as far as I am concerned.

Hopefully more people follow his example….

  4. Neilo

His public persona, it could be argued, is a little full-on but this is a lovely, kind gesture from CMcG.

    1. Neilo

There’s a bit of that, for sure, Dog. Dana White absolutely loves McGregor: he is box-office personified (please don’t pardon the pun).

  5. Supercrazyprices

He should have given the money and not talked about it. New money knack. It’s a made up scumbag sport for thickos to follow. At least street scum years ago would fight according to boxing rules but there are no rules. It’s anti-social and shouldn’t be encouraged.
