Nowhere online have I read the cause of his death, so I’m going to presume it was suicide. Isn’t this exactly the sort or reporting that support groups etc want to put a stop to?

Nah he had kidney disease. He had a transplant in 2004 but I think the kidney stopped working a couple of years ago. So sad, the man was a legend and I always loved his runs for the try line with 2 or 3 lads hanging off him trying to take him down. RIP.

Can you give the personal insults a rest for a few days ? It doesn’t add anything useful to a conversation …

I wish I had your self belief, Don.

Actually, no, I’d rather not be a dick and accept some personal change from time to time.

But actually Don you are an absolute idiot

It would not take some masterful feat of trolling to elicit this fact

You have a pretty bright future in track and field ahead as that was the biggest long jump to a conclusion I’ve ever seen. Think before you type

Remember that one time he swatted away Will Greenwood and squashed Mike Catt? Hell of a player and a good guy by every account. RIP Big Lad, as Disasta said.

I can’t believe he was only 40. What a player, sad to see him gone. RIP.

Made his debut against Ireland too.

Very sad news to be taken so young. A perfect All Black, magnificent ambassador for the game-had the privilege of meeting him twice- and of course he was lovely.

His was probably the retirement that disappointed me most of any sports person. Very sad to hear this.

Didn’t this guy become a poster boy for fast food? And lots of it? Are we going to see some honest media analysis here or more Tom McGurk/George Hook hagiography?
