Opening tomorrow

The new monkey bar-free ‘play amenity area’ in Bishop Street Flat Complex, Dublin 8.

Sinéad Murphy, of Dublin City Council writes:

This newly designed space offers children and young people in the local area, a new form of free play which has an emphasis on imagination and social interaction, rather than the traditional swings and slides.

The new play area has carefully planned installations including hills and mounds, a stage area and a giant blackboard and mud kitchen. There is ample space for wheeled play, street games and imaginative free play. The focal point of this amenity is the giant picnic table where many social interactions can take place, sitting or chatting or just enjoying the new space.

The redevelopment of Bishop Street play area is part of ‘Outside the Box’ project.  This cost effective and innovative project re-imagines and redesigns local spaces and places for play where children can experience and enjoy self directed free play that supports their learning, growth and development….

Damn hippies.

FIGHT!

    1. well, tat's that

They’ve attempted to construct a trouble-proof playground. Only time will tell (but someone post an update here, because effort of going to Dublin 8 though).

Give it a month before its wrecked. And with the “friendly” teens in that area lots of things to sit on was a fantastic idea.

Yes Billy, i know you wanted a basketball hoop, but this way you can IMAGINE a hoop and isn’t that better?

kids love swings – mine would spend the entire day on them given the opportunity. did anyone ask some local kids what they wanted?

They couldn’t hear them through the bubble wrap.

These days nothing but cheeky undisciplined kids, I punched a child square in the face the other day when I caught him messing with my bike, some little 10 yr old scobe, felt real good, the shock look on his face, nose streaming blood. the punch he’s been asking for his whole life and didn’t know

I know what you mean, I beat one 10 year old senseless and for being a toe rag and IM THE BAD GUY.

I’d say his old man punches regularly but for no reason. I suppose he was shocked because at last he made a connection between something he did and getting punched.

Sitting and chatting won’t keep kids active.

Those wooden pole things are a law suit waiting to happen.

Unreal. Fupp off back to your soy lattes you patronising morons.. Kids and adults like swings and slides because they’re fun.

      1. Demon

Swings and slides and whirligigs and climbing frames are right-wing? Thanks for telling us that, we wouldn’t have known.

teepees so kids can sit on wet muddy grass – lovely, until some teen works out they make a nice little fireplace. Wooden lumps to jump on – lovely, until some wet day someone falls off them backwards, cracks their skull and gets more on compo than a proper playground like you’d get somewhere like Mount Merrion would have cost on day one.

Holy fock… cctv is needed and slap who ever or who ever’s kids are responsible with the bill for repair. But we don’t do enough of that here..

“an emphasis on imagination and social interaction, rather than the traditional swings and slides.”

All children must be high achievers, constantly growing, improving and solving problems like the Cabáiste Ó Fuinneogs of the Educate Separately schools of Ranelagh and the nice part of the SCR.

And if you’re not a achiever child of an architect these days, they’ll say you’re ‘On The Spectrum’ to save the embarrassment of having a kid whose not academic.
