I couldn’t get a constituency newsletter printed in Leinster House b/c one TD clogged up the printer with an order for 85000 Christmas cards
— Lucinda Creighton (@LCreighton) December 22, 2015
That’s right.
255,000 of them.
Senator Averil Power used Oireachtas facilities to print 73,000 calendars (Independent.ie)
Meanwhile…

Have you noticed there is no comments section open for that story (link above) in the Indo on Averil Power. Unlike say this story on Sinn Féin. Must be an oversight…

Which is the more meaningless electioneering, the christmas cards or the constituency newsletter? Personally I’d judge them to be on a par and since I’m paying for both can I ask that neither be produced at my expense?
No its not the same thing. Not even close. I don’t think either should be used as means to waste money. But some people will genuinely read and find help things in a newsletter.
Ah come on. The newsletter contains the same information that every other TD and councillor in the area claimed credit for in their newsletters and it was already covered in the local paper anyway.
Plus she’s a senator, she doesn’t represent the area.
We’re talking about Lucinda V Unnamed 85,000 Christmas Cards TD.
I’m talking about how Averil Power’s calendar contains information for the area she doesn’t represent, and is clearly about self-promotion. Much like TD’s newsletters.
Aengus O’Snodaigh?
…in heels, a blonde quiff and bright red lipstick
But enough about your Christmas outfit, who is the mysterious
earth hating ink and paper wasting hitlerprinter?Creighton is speaking about a TD, Power is a Seanadóir, no?
Also, speaking of Power, you can take the girl out of Fianna Fáil, but you can’t take FF out of the girl.
Is the Indo not the newsletter for all Renua & D4 Mé Féinners ??
Better a Mé Féiner, than a Sinn Féiner: at least the banking class only figurativeiy screwed our kids.
blah blah blah zzzzzzz
I know, Mike, I bore myself sometimes but a trip down Memory Lane never hurts in the run-up to an election.
This post should have a ‘Where would you get it’ title, of the sad and hopeless variety.
“Senator Power said that she thinks the printing of Christmas cards by Oireachtas members is inappropriate and said there’s a world of difference between a calendar, with useful public information, and a Christmas card.”
Yeah, Where would you get it?
link not working
She’s looking quite pretty of late
And learned quite a lot from her mates
There’s no way to know
Has she asked me to go?
On Three Hundred and Sixty-Five dates
There’s no evidence for Lucinda’s claim.
Also, does Averil Power have a constituency if she’s a Senator? She didn’t get elected in Dublin North-East, so how can she claim she represents that area?
i wonder who she is married to….?
clear conflict of interest here.
If you mention him you’ll be accused of ginger-bashing and the Indo will probably have a front page editorial on the subject
The power wan called to my door a few weeks ago. She’s only desperate to get elected
I can’t fault Power for ambition: willing to wear out shoe leather in the bowels of the winter.
Irishstucurry in never-saying-anything-good-about-mainstream-politician shocker.
I’d love the opportunity to be otherwise!
She has a greater print run than the legendary Pirelli Calendar, whats in it
Will the Independent sponsor anti Sinn Fein Candidates, will Paul Williams
run against Mary Lou or Jerry, no point sitting on the fence, got to put your
money where your mouth is.
