One of a small number of extremely fortunate Bowie fans from back in the day writes:
It was very cloak and dagger. Can’t remember exactly how I heard about it initially, but the procedure was that you had to attend a drum and bass gig run by Quadraphonic in The Kitchen nightclub [Clarence Hotel, Temple Bar, Dublin] a few days before, and find the person who would then give you a ticket (like the one above).
I did this, and went on my own, as no one else I knew seemed to grasp how important this was/. I spent a night in a small room with less than 200 people with free drink and food as Bowie and his band did a whole concert. I am extremely grateful to life now for providing this amazing experience.

I remember that event……not that I got to it. Followed the rumours and went all around town with a mate. Never solved the puzzle or got to go. Fair play!!!
You lucky lucky bastard.
Ditto.
I kept my friend, a real Bowie fan, company and accepted his numerous complimentary drinks in the Clarence bar while he tried to figure out how to meet his hero and where the secret gig was.
I didn’t think such levels if envy were possible.
ugh – of, obviously.
I feel your green monster.
Wow, that must have been awesome!!
Fantastic memory to have!
Thanks for sharing :)
+1
Quadraphonic PUT ON SOME GOOD NIGHTS….GROOVERIDER ON A SUPERMAN…GREAT NIGHT
One of the best gigs ever , feel so grateful to have been there …it was so surreal seeing him hanging out in the the kitchen and Andrews lane too.. good times .
97 was when Bowie released Earthling. I listened to it on the way to work this morning, what a classic album.
I remember this too. Wasn’t at it but did see the likes of Grooverider and doc Scott at quadraphonic while it lasted.
Drum n bass/ jungle was pretty poo by 97.
Them lads starting believing their own hype in the English fashion mags..91-96 were the magic years…though the bassbin nights were good back in the 00s
Were you not worried that your ticket said no:256? ha
I was asked to go…offered a ticket, but I thought it was a David Bowie tribute act or something…so I went to “Powder Bubble” in the pod instead. I have very few regrets in my life, not going to it is def up near the top of that list.
I was there. I can’t really remember too much… B
ono bought me a pint, I remember that.
