It’s great that depression is being talked about more.

But I think Brezziaee has had his say. Let’s get a few more voices pushed out there. Ryan Tubridy and Ray D’Arcy talk to Breezey more often then their accountants.

Has he another book out yet? I need another Brssaee book.

You know I was just thinking that. At first I thought fair play to him for talking about it and highlighting the reality of the issue. And then he is on the radio/TV again and again and again. Then he releases a book and now he is back talking about it. You start to wonder Bressie man what do you actually do these days bar talk about mental illness

As well though, I think advocates should have more than personal experience.
Why isn’t someone from console, pieta house, headstrong or a similar specialist org doing this?

          +1

He does seem limited in what he can talk about, which is just his own personal experience. Of the ‘I was feeling down so I went for a run’ Ray D’Arcy variety.

      Here here
Bressie is just trying to make a quick buck imo
Why didn’t he donate the book profits to charity? Or why does he allegedly chargelarge fees to give mental health talks?
More than that, I think while Ireland needs a spokesman for the short intervention services, we also need people to stick up for people who need a lot more help.

+100000 . I hate when charity is used to line one’s purse or further one’s career. Next stop will be Bressie for President. I am taking bets now.

“Why didn’t he donate the book profits to charity? Or why does he allegedly chargelarge fees to give mental health talks?”

How do you know he doesnt donate any of the earnings?

And lad has a right to earn his keep – its not like the Blizzards pay the bills

I’m not a psychologist but I recommend spending less time around Kian Egan.

      That’ll be 200 euro please.

  2. ahjayzis

He’s very, very, very attractive though.

I guess it’s no harm to have the kind of spokesman for mental health awareness being a total ridebag. Show’s even li’l wetzers have their struggles. Far better than a ponderous clinical sounding doctor inanywez.

Why don’t they fund some services instead of having a “celebrity” in so they can put on their concerned faces.

    1. Nigel

Wow, thank God we found an angle of attack on somebody willing to talk openly and regularly about depression. Is it because ‘sure what does he have to be depressed about?’ has become unfashionable?

  4. Augustus Gloop

Cue a load of old nonsense about “mindfulness” and the snake-oil practitioners rubbing their hands in glee.

    1. Clampers Outside!

It’s great that you have never had need for exercises in “mindfulness” and having to learn how to slow the pace of life racing through your mind. It’s probably why you call it “nonsense”, because you’ve never have need for it. Good for you!

    2. Nigel

Thank you for saving me from the fake calming effects of mindfulness! Now I can get back to having the auld panic attacks four or five times a day like God intended!

        1. Nigel

Slowly breath in, hold it for a moment, then slowly let it out. Concentrate on the air moving into your body and out again. If you feel your mind wandering, gently bring it back to focus on your breath once more.

I’m a bit prejudiced because I know Niall since he was knee high to a grasshopper. He is a genuinely nice guy who genuinely went through terrible times. It still takes a lot of b*lls to admit to mental health issues. My sister in law suffers from schizophrenia and has first-hand experience of the stigma it brings onto your doorstep and as someone involved in the hiring and firing side of things, I also see how the stigma feeds through to there.
So yes, fine he does seem to talk about it a lot but sometimes it helps to have someone who seems like they have it all who is willing to show they don’t and that they have this terrible demon to deal with and to show others that its a bit smaller than they think and that it can be done. I guess that is why they use “celebs” for these kinds of things. Sure he has a book, sure he has to make a living but what he is doing is still a good thing.

  6. Green fingered

Yeah, let’s get him. Forget about double checking whether he does or doesn’t donate any of the proceeds from his books to charity or whether he is charging a fee for his appearances. He should just go away now so that we can all go back to not talking about mental health issues like in the good old days. Well done everyone for putting him in his place, who does he think he is??

    1. J

Greenfingered, there are many nurses and doctors who most likely disagree with that statement. It is experts that should attend such a meeting not some celebrity. It’s not a personal attack on Bressie, but a recognition that it is well funded services and trained professionals that are required.

      1. Green fingered

You’re dead right J, it’s a pity they didn’t ask someone like Dr Paul Dalton, Senior Clinical Psychologist and Head and Clinical Lead of the Psycho-oncology Department in St. Vincent’s. Oh wait..
I’m sure having heard from someone in the medical profession there would be absolutely no benefit from hearing from someone who could speak about their own personal struggle and how they found the current services were to deal with.

        1. Kieran NYC

No, it’s the fact that as a ‘sleb, it seems that only he gets to talk about it. Which is a narrow experience that he always prefaces with “I’m not a doctor, this is just what works for me”. How about we get someone who doesn’t fit into the ‘I went for a jog’ mold?

  7. Frilly Keane

Can someone tell me what Bressie is

I know he’s on the voice like
    But What’s his gig
    Singer Songwriter Producer Manager wha
I’ve no clue of his songs or who he’s worked with
Clearly he’s no Sheerin n’the like

So who da ûck is he

    1. rotide

He was the singer in a band called The Blizzards and had something of a solo career.

Just youtube a song called Fantasy. Probably his best contribution overall.

  8. Bort

If a tall, fit, handsome, successful, wealthy, triathalon finishing, model kissing, “rock star”, Leinster, Ireland, Westmeath playing dreamboat is depressed what chances do the rest of us have?

I only ever togged out for Vincent’s under 10’s Rounders team.
