Further to popular radio host Sue Nunn’s disappearance from the Kilkenny/Carlow airwaves.
Legal sabre-rattling (above) from Sue Nunn’s replacement John Masterson and his business partner, KCLR FM chief executive, John Purcell.
More as we get it.

Co-owning a PR company that represents the Carer’s Association…. excellent work there lads
awful reek of redacted about this one..
I *think* that Meaghers certainly act for Redacted, so yeah…perhaps
Aye, all this talk of protecting a good name etc.
Actually, I’d go so far as to say, whenever I see Meaghers involved in anything, it seems to involve protecting the good name of somebody where, let’s just say the goodness isn’t so obvious.
PR companies are the evil behind broadcasting in Ireland. Every little Z lister you see on TV, promoting some useless diet book or the rehabilitation of a celtic tiger developer on weekend RTE radio is being worked by a PR goon behind the scenes.
PR is lower than a snake’s ass.
awesome commentary – fair play
libertas
Really, genuinely lovely people, by the sounds of it.
From Citizens Information.
“You may not be dismissed for exercising your right to carer’s leave. You are protected against being victimised for taking carer’s leave or proposing to take it. This means that your employer may not penalise you by dismissal, unfair treatment including selection for redundancy or an unfavourable change in your conditions of employment.”
Also:
If you have successfully applied for carer’s leave from employment, no less than 2 weeks before you intend to commence carer’s leave, you and your employer must prepare and sign a document specifying or confirming this arrangement. The document must include some important information, for example, the date when you wish to commence carer’s leave, the duration of your carer’s leave, and the form in which your leave will be taken. You can find a sample confirmation document in Appendix B of the Carer’s Leave Act explanatory booklet (pdf). Your employer signs and retains this document and must give you a copy of it so you can have a record of this arrangement.
There will have to be some record of the agreement on this. If there is some kind of “outstanding circumstances” that prevent Sue from returning to her original position, it would have to be something that affects the company across the board, eg, the radio station is closing down and everyone is losing their job. Otherwise it can be seen as a serious case of discrimination, based on her gender, and that she took time off to be a carer, nevermind the fact that self-interest could be seen to play a part, given the connections Sue’s replacement has to the station.
Good luck to her! Reading Meadlowlarks info from CI… I reckon Nunn will be back on air in her old spot soon enough. It’s the law…. so it’d seem.
Alternative Employment
If it is not reasonably practicable for an employer or his or her successor, to
allow an employee to return to the job held immediately prior to the leave, the
employer, or his or her successor, must offer the employee suitable
alternative employment under a new contract of employment. The terms of
the alternative employment (e.g. the place of work, the capacity in which the
employee is employed) must not be substantially less favourable to the
employee than the terms of his or her original job and continuity of
employment will be preserved.
So they can offer you a slightly different job when you return. For example, a radio presenter. But at a different time.
“If it is not reasonably practicable…”
Cian did you even read what I posted above?
handy that her son is a pr man.
No he’s not
They cud ave gotten rid of a few more “presenters” a term i use lightly before chopping sue nunn. Start at 7am in the morning and work down the list till u reach 6 in d evening….. Prime time radio and the only person i can listen to is the lunchtime show den unfortunately like many others i cannot stand to listen after that. Cringe, cringe and more cringe. Lets be real we wont have anyting worth listening to till Sue is back unless of course solving sex problems talking rubbish and general nonsense is your thing….then tune in!!
couldn’t agree more with you Mairead. They are really exhausting their presenters in there. breakfast show much better years ago when only one presenter, hate the stupid banter that goes on, know a lot of people tuning out lately.. used to love listening to the station in the afternoons but they changed the presenter recently, we all know the reasoning behind that… kilkenny is relatively small place , people know what goes on… pity really, it’s great that we have our own local radio station, pity the most important voice has been treated this way… read today that community radio could be getting license, maybe we’ll hear her on there…
I’m so sorry to hear that you have to deal with this utter crap Sue,
but I know you to be a strong and caring lady, and my thoughts are
with u.
