He’s very young to be in public office, and finishing college at the same time. When stress mounts, and gets the better of you it can be hard to see the right way out of trouble. Sometimes disappearing is the logical choice when you feel like that. I sincerely hope he gets the rest and support he needs. Chin up and best of luck to him. This is just a blip, he’ll go on to do great things with himself, hopefully.

Indeed, well said. Its easy to have a laugh about this (as I did earlier… ), but to be fair, he is young and in the public eye. All to often people under stress don’t get the support they need.

Yep. Take a break Stephen. We all hit a wall now and again. There’s nothing that can’t be remedied.

Good luck to him, it can’t be easy dealing with an issue like this when you are in the public eye.

Once he gets into the Dail he’ll be grand, sure there’s no stress riding the gravy train.

Think the poor wee lad needs to take a step back from politics. I wish him all the best.

    All the best Stephen.
As Old Ma Hoop used to say ‘stop the world I wanna get off’.
And both annual and sick leave is there for a reason.

Hopefully he gets the rest he needs.

Funny, we always comment how depression, stress & mental illness aren’t given the respect they deserve in this country. How it’s a stigma we joke about and brush under the carpet. We always comment how terrible this is – and how it’s the next big debate that needs to be had in this country.
Yet once a public figure suffers these problems we make jokes & blame his age.

Stephen asking for privacy and refusing to divulge details on what actually happened = just another form of brushing under the carpet.

He is part of the problem.

You could say that about all Politicians.

If this was anyone else, everyone would be considerate and keep the mockery at bay but because he is in SF, the gloves are off and somehow his mental health is not valid.

        You’re havin a giraffe.

If a labour or FG politician had gone missing then it would be all “deserves the traitor / blueshirt etc right”.

I’m not going to comment/ give snide remark on this case, don’t know what is up with the chap but spare me the SF victimhood

This absolutely fupp all to do with his political allegiance and everything to do with mental health. And do you know, if it were Joan Burton herself I’d still wish her well, and good luck in recovery, because mental health has been ignored for so long in this country and at last the stigma is finally starting to diminish. Shame on all of you who made this about his political party, and didn’t think about the man. It can happen to anyone, nobody is infallible. Show some courtesy.

It was the same deal with people tearing strips off Tubridy on here a few weeks ago because he had the temerity to talk about online bullying and abuse. He’s apparently supposed to ‘suck it up’ because he’s famous, as I believe Anne suggested.
