Trinity Graduate and seanad candidate Averil Power, has a message for those who are eligible to vote in the upcoming Trinity Seanad Election…

Up to 10,000 voter cards that were delivered by registered post were returned to sender, as recipients were away from home.

Those who wish to take part in the election must make contact with Trinity College and get their card sent again.

Avril Power wants to Repeal the 8th, which is commendable, but she refuses to state whether she’s pro-choice or not (as in whether she’d favor the UK or French or US model of abortion on demand). And that’s why she won’t get my vote. Even Bacik (who I’ve no time for) has said she’s in favor of the UK abortion model. Avril isn’t trusted to protect reproductive rights by those in TCD who have the Seanad vote. And that’s one of the reasons she’ll follow her usual trajectory of never managing to get elected, despite massive backing from the Sindo.

Averil Power will adopt whatever policies she thinks will get her elected. She is a mé féiner through and through; worked within FF for years and then, when she feared that things might not go her way in the election, she her eyes were suddenly opened to the boys’ club and cronyism within the party, obliging to leave a couple of months before the election.

She is a pure opportunist; no doubt she’ll go far…

That’s not a fair assessment of what happened. She left over the lack of support FF were giving to the Yes side in the marriage referendum.

You aren’t going to vote for her because she’s not pro-choice ENOUGH?

for gods sake, no wonder the left is such a mess

          I wasn’t talking about her.

She’s a self serving yoke as highlighted below and there’s plenty of reasons not to vote for her, wanting to repeal the 8th but being cagey about her thoughts after that isn’t the best of them.

Mind you half of the commenters here seemed to vote with the 8th as the main topic in the GE so were already through the looking glass.

Averil Power, rejected by the people of her constituency and now looking to her alma mater to get into the Seanad. Oh and she’s done great things for the gays and wants to repeal the 8th.
    A ghastly piece of work

I remember seeing her at the tally in RDS for marriage referendum. She was the sole representative for FF there. There was no party with her, no tally team. She was completely on her own.
Anyone think the 8th will be repealed with FF/FG are mistaken.

      1. Lisa

Yeah, I saw her at the tally too. She wasn’t the sole FF person there by a long shot. Pat Carey was there with all the Fianna Fail tally boyos. Avril likes to pretend that she was the sole FFer there, but that’s a fairytale to put it mildly.

      That’s uncanny.

And I’m a fan of the Boosh. I may never look at him the same way again.

We were given the chance3 years back, and people blew it on some non existent “reform” gubbins.

I wish I could vote in the Seanad. If only I had gotten a pass mark in an arts degree from UCD.

No I didn’t go to Trinity, I went to CIT.

As I say to my US colleagues, CIT is like Ireland’s version of MIT.

I’m surprised at the amount of coverage she gets in the sindo and indo. the soft focus piece about her boxing. the bias really sticks out. when she was a senator and was asked about her calendars she said they were for her constituents i.e. in the election. she is just a joke.

    1. Optimus Grime

Sure isn’t she married to one of the journos there! The red headed lad Fionn something…

Averil Power is a nasty bit of work, so much so that even FF spat her out. She speaks her mind and doesn’t care who she tramples on within a political dynasty. She supports wymmin’s rights, gays and err… something else I can’t remember.

As politicians go I quite like her.

I think she should join SF.

    Ok maybe not.

    1. some old queen

But, she has taken the time to remind some that they have a responsibility to register then vote. Behind the bullshit is a principled woman I think. Questionable principles but at least they are upfront.
