Irish Independent’s Paul Williams speaking with Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show on February 19
Gareth Naughton writes:
Country star and native Liverpudlian Nathan Carter will pay tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster with a performance of a song specially written to honour the 96.
…We’ll also hear from Kevin Keegan, one of the many former Liverpool players who stood by the families of the Hillsborough victims as they fought for justice.
…Fresh from her election victory, Senator Lynn Ruane will join us in studio to share her inspiring story of triumph over adversity.
…Meteorologist Joanna Donnelly has gone down a storm since making her television debut and now, alongside husband and fellow meteorologist Harm Luijkx, she’ll be telling us why our weather is going crazy.
And is it time that we armed all the Gardaí? We’ll be asking if the Gardaí are properly equipped to deal with the spiralling violence on our streets. A panel including crime correspondent Paul Williams, Clonmel solicitor Kieran Cleary and former assistant commissioner Martin Donnellan will debate the issue.

Ah b*llix I love Kevin Keegan, I’ll have to watch.
That. Body. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej81zIkM9uY
I was in floods when he fell off his bike on Superstars.

Quality!
I can’t watch anything to do with Hillsborough, it completely pulls my heart out. I was in pieces the day of the inquest. There is just something so crushingly sad about what happened and then the coverup and then the families having to fight for that long. i wish them and their families peace and I hope they get some closure.
“Crushingly sad” is a particularly poor choice of words given the circumstances.
Freudian perhaps but maybe you’ll tell me how I should describe my feelings then?
You really don’t need to, your upset is apparent.
Embarrassing?
Embarrassed for you as usual Jake.
With a little more thought and consideration.
I was going to go with telling you to jog on personally Mike and go police someone else. Certainly makes me feel better.
In fairness, that’s more than freudian, that’s a terrible choice of words. I’m sure you didn’t mean anything by it but just remember it when berating people for their bad choice of words next time.
It’s how it feels to me. So…
Don’t mind these idiots Don
You bottomhole. Have a bit of manners
Despite the…er…poor choice of words….I’m actually the opposite on this; I welcome the reporting and articles and spotlight that is given to the tragedy. Like a reminder of where incompetence, lack of diligence, blatent disregard for human life etc leads. Plus of course the human cost. Every time I read about Hillsborough I find out something new. I’m like that with the Titanic-sinking also, the Bradford Fire, Stardust, at al. The more people know about the mistakes, the less risk it may re-occur. Plus a reminder of how a kid can leave the house all excited and full of life but never come home.
What? I didn’t say no one should watch it or investigate it, just that I can’t watch it. It’s great they got the result they want at the inquest.
Well, how can lessons be learned if people such as yourself choose not to heed the facts?
As I’m not chief of police, I’ll think it will be fine if I can’t watch something that’s upsetting to me……
Oh for why a lot of good that will do. This is not some “lessons learned” story. This is the systematic abuse of dead people by a serving police force.
Yes, which is why the story is important for all, especially in encouraging those working as part of a corrupt cover-up such as this to blow the whistle, give truthful evidence and so forth.
You’re correct but jaysus it’s depressing it takes an event like this to make people do that
Not for love nor money would I watch Tuberty
But Nathan f*****g Carter. OMG Amazeballs
They really love the faux yee haw hick shtick. Last week they had a lorleen from the Simpsons impersonator except she wasn’t an impersonator, she was real. It was baffling…particularly as it followed a genuinely good interview with adi Roche, 2 Chernobyl/Irish girls and Mrs Bono
‘A panel including ……’
Turbridy will don his goalies geansai and deflect any reference to anything that might embarrass or question the establishment, FF/FG, DOB, etc, etc
They have probably set up a delay so as to avoid embarrassing attacks on the good ole boys
Tubridy
See, back in the 90’s, Hollywood celebs used to view Ireland separately to the UK on their press junkets. They wised up quick enough that we all had d’channels so we got cut loose in favour of the Wogans, Rosses and Nortons.
So now we’re left with Irish politicians, Kathryn Thomas and whomever is lounging around the RTE canteen on a Friday evening. All delivered by Tubridys awkward and cringey style, he’s in the job years and he still looks like he’s doing it for the first time.
= RTE staff meeting
+€160
+ the chat show format has changed as ‘celebs’ can’t be bothered to do an actual sit-down interview anymore. They’d much prefer the five minute ‘laughy, jokey, buy my crap and then see ya’ Jonathan Woss type show.
No shows (apart from the LLS) attempt the old-fashioned ‘Parky’ style interview anymore.
Wouldn’t you love to see Tubridy attacked by Emu all the same :)
How could you tell which was which?
One has a man’s hand up it’s arse and oh yeah, good point!
Or a Pinemarten.
where’s that bloke that told Pat Kenny he was an eejit?
why isn’t HE standing up for us.
I say “us” but actually I’m off to a table quiz tomorrow thanks be to Jebus…
There really is no equaivalent of the LLS anywhere (well, in the english speaking world anyway). It does current affairs, light entertainment, celebrity poo, panel discussions, politics and human interest. Parky or Carson never got close to that sort of diversity.
The problem is that love him or loathe him, Gaybo was actually able to handle all that and is the reason the show is the format it is. PK was grand at the politics and current affairs stuff but dreadful at anything else, Tubridy is pretty bad at most of it bar the celebrity poo.
There is literally no one in Ireland capable of hosting the show in its current format.
Sean Moncrieff?
You said it Soupy.
They’re literally talking about the weather on the Late Late show this week. That is kind of amazing.
Kevin Kneegan
Remember him?
European footballer of the year, England manager and the person to give skysports their first watercooler moment.
Yeah, pretty sure most people do.
Is he the lad with the perm?
European footballer of the year…. twice indeed.
I thought he was irreplaceable – and then along came Kenny to sweep me off my feet.
And now ye have Sakho, who just sweeps out the medicine cabinet..
True but so long as Coutinho is there I’ll keep dreaming.
I thought the list of guests actually sounded alright. Then I read “Paul Williams”.
Nope.
How many interviews does that guy do in a year? Crime really does pay.
The Late Late and Tubridy need axing and he needs the boot from RTE
and we need to get Williams to fill us in on who got Penalty Points cancelled
and had he any himself or any of rest of scribes.
Never waste a good crisis to grab more power for the authorities eh? Now we can get those guns for the Gardai we always wanted. Hooray. Hows about an Apache attack copter and some armoured Humvees?
