Fianna Fáil TD John McGuinness

Mr McGuinness continues to claim he did no wrong in secretly meeting Callinan and not telling anybody about it until now. Yet the Fianna Fáil TD accepts his information may have helped the O’Higgins Commission of Investigation into whistleblower allegations. His excuses for not coming forward before are less than convincing.

Is his decision to divulge the information now related to him not being reappointed as chairman of the Dáil Public Accounts Committee and being notably left off Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin’s frontbench?

Whatever about his role as a TD – only the voters of Carlow-Kilkenny can pass judgment on that – Mr McGuinness was negligent in his duty as chairman of the Dáil’s most powerful committee, which is supposed to be the taxpayers’ watchdog.

The public deserved better from the holder of that role. And these matters are more important than John McGuinness’s ego and attention-seeking antics.

Right so.

From an editorial in today’s Irish Independent.

“John McGuinness’s ego and attention-seeking antics.”

Oh right so this article has nothing to do with the reason Callinan sought a secret meeting to discredit McCabe then.

The editor of the Indo group is former Garda Review editor Stephen Rea. People don’t seem to grasp the significance of this.

it was nice to hear Terry Prone’s kid on Today FM give this editorial significant prominence at the top of the show

Deflect the argument away from the substantive issue and get the people focused on something else….

    “ooh look theres a butterfly…..”

I like via weekend mags on the Saturday. The GAA columnists are good. Don’t like the rest of it.

I’m sure you love Finton O’Toole.

oh come now, Tish, who could forget his Bowie tribute column which contained enough fodder to keep Private Eye’s Pseuds Corner going till October…

I saw Niall Collins interview after the o Higgins report came out and he was pathetic. No objectivity, move along nothing to see here. Oh wait ….an innocent woman is brutally murdered on his patch as a TD . Tis grand. Garda doing a great job. 19 unsolved murders on his Limerick patch and 40 unaccounted for missing people. There is clear war going on in FF and i support john mc Guinness . We should be more worried why strenous efforts were made to stop Maurice Mc Cabe going before PAC. Divide, conquer and slander is how corruption is covered up.

There’s only one John McGuinness……..pity there aren’t more……and less of the coat tail chasing, ass kissers in the dail and the media.

bet they wish they’d given him a ministerial position now

SuperMag!! Cape flying…jocks over his tights fighting to save The Whistleblowers!
look out Mehole… SuperMag is going to grind you into da dust!!

Funny how the establishment reaction to McGuiness echoes the establishment reaction to all other whistleblowers.

  6. Bellweather

How many other witnesses did McGuinness secretly meet before they appeared? Why would he do that? He has compromised his integrity completely.

And how did he not mention it until now – AFTER the whole investigation…

    Ego and attention seeking
    Yeah
    He’s a pup alright
But I’m of the opinion that McGuiness was doing a bitta’ve self serving in his own best interest work

Topping up his Garda Favour insurance policy log book kinda stuff

And that’s why he can be rightly accused of not serving the Public’s Best Interest

He had information we were entitled to know
And he kept it for himself

If this was the US he’d be up before a Judge by now

    A thundering rhymes with punt

  8. Truth in the News

Funny that the Indo never did an editorial on the cancellation of Stephen Rea’s
penalty points, or how the investigative journalist Gemma O’Doherty was forced
out the Independent over exposing the scandal.
There’s a stench emamating for the Independent and its not that’s the apple that’s
    rotten, its the entire barrell.
