I see the Irish Star wasn’t in your front pages round-up last night. Here it is (above). Apart from it being of dubious taste, would the likes of the Star not be jumping up and down in outrage if a Thai paper had printed a photo of he mangled, bloodied corpse of an Irish woman on its front page? Or is it cool ‘cos she’s just a prostitute? I’m not outraged at it myself, just rather bemused. And slightly queasy.

The Star is scum. Same stable as the Royal Irish Independent.

Pretends to be for the working man but owned by a billionaire.

When Irishman Michael Dwyer was killed by police in Bolivia the photo of his bloody body was printed widely across the Irish press. It was even on the front page of the Indo.

I agree. Publishing that picture (be it the Star or Broadsheet) is incredibly disrespectful to that poor girl. She was someone’s daughter, a REAL PERSON. There is absolutely no need to re-publish the picture in order to report on the Star’s bad taste. Broadsheet is as guilty as the Star. If you say you are not outraged by such an image being published for prurient entertainment – let’s be honest here – then you must be completely desensitised to the extent that you are unable to feel any empathy for the horror and suffering inflicted on a fellow human being.

Hi Noc, the fact that I am not outraged does not mean I don’t think it’s despicable and horrendous to publish that image. Of course it is. But getting outraged over the editors of some rag clearly not having any human decency is urinating in the wind to some extent.
I do agree that Broadsheet republishing the page without some form of pixelation or blacking out is probably not in the best of taste either, though it’s worth remembering that this image is sitting in newsagents and homes all over the country right now.
To be honest, the main reason I’ve raised this is because I don’t see much mention of it elsewhere and I am pretty sure the editors of the Star would keep an eye on sites like Broadsheet, so it might give them some indication that people out there find their decision to print that photo to be unacceptable.
Perhaps they don’t give a damn, but then that wouldn’t be a surprise.

I wonder why Liam isn’t outraged? That’s a human being they’re exploiting for their hard of reading customers, for god’s sake.

i remember years ago when a plane going from brazil to france crashed into the ocean and everyone died. there were (i think) two irish women on it. a few papers and sites said that when the cabin lost pressure everyone wouldve passed out so they wouldve went without knowing a thing. then along come the star .. who went out of their way to prove that they wouldve in fact, been concious thru it all and completely aware. they are absolute dirt bags, theyve often shown dead bodies before, sometimes with the persons face shown. theyre the type who when they hear about things like what happened in Nice, theyre licking their lips and begin searching for every bit of ‘juicy’ info on it they can.

I’m with Jane. Why is Michaela afforded dignity but that poor woman isnt? Shame on the S**r, scumbags.

They barred my from posting to them on Twitter when I called the a pack of cnuts for publishing spoilers for every Love/Hate episode before it was aired. Obviously images of dead people outranks spoilers but still, see how low they’ll stoop for column inches.

    A Thai HOOKER you say.

“…Kills Thai Admissions Assistant at Local University” wouldn’t happen, she’d just be “Thai Woman”.

I know I shouldn’t be shocked at how low the tabloids go, but I am. That image is just despicable.

They still haven’t interviewed a new suspect for the Michaela McAreavey murder since the two stooges were released.

Story about dirtbird tabloid overstepping mark by publishing picture of murder victim’s corpse illustrated by publishing same picture.
    I’m confused.
