Good to see that “one Minister” appears to rejoice that ‘we will never have billions to spend on schools and health ‘. I would be obliged if the Minister ‘s identity could be published so that I might communicate with him/her. It is also a collective stance and decision of the former and current stinking Governments. Matters to ponder indeed.

How did he “appear to rejoice it”? Did he pop a cork or something?. Because well,- the reality – we probably won’t .

I love the one who’s going to revamp hospital food.
So he’s finally going to stop the hospitals from making it?

Just out of curiosity, what is the position regarding school dinners in Ireland? Are the kids fed by the school or do they subsist on crisps and chocolate. In France, school food is first class.

Hah! I’ve been to France on school exchanges more times than I can remember. The school dinners in France back then left much to be desired. And I will add that I saw just as many kids in France stuffed with chocolate biscuits and crisps as I have in Ireland.

That said, it was almost a decade ago now. I haven’t been to France in many years. Things could well have changed.

But to answer your question, there are no school dinners in Irish schools, but most schools do nowadays have a no-junk-food policy. Children are not allowed to bring crisps, chocolate, cakes, or sweets of any kind into school now, and that includes soft drinks. It’s a change we seriously needed.

      1. Kerri Ann

Lovely. Our school food policy is “We don’t feed hungry children. In fact, we sometimes take their food away.”

      2. louislefronde

Therein lies a serious question, why not?

All children irrespective of what school they attend should be provided with a healthy nutritious meal at lunchtime and receive lessons on healthy eating during the school year.

Schooling in Ireland is appalling by the sounds of it and very backward.

        1. Turgenev

Damn straight. School dinners should be made to an agreed standard of nutrition and taste. How can children be expected to study well and to grow up strong if they spend eight hours five days a week without a proper hot meal?
What does it say about Irish society that we don’t have proper school dinners?

As Michael Moore amusingly discovered and filmed (‘Where to Invade Next’). Fair play to the school chefs there; they really cared about what the young students ate and varying the bill of fare. Too many kids in the UK and Ireland have been brought up on chicken nuggets and chips….I still see the result of that mono-gourmet attitude when entertaining.

Amid the ‘leave Hickey alone’ piece from Liam Collins in the Indo, he makes an Interesting point about own lack of ticket touting laws.

“In more recent years, Gaelic, soccer and rugby clubs have all sold blocks of tickets allocated to club members to banks, insurance companies and other corporate entities for large sums of money on the pretext that the funds were for “club development”.

I don’t doubt their integrity, but it was still ticket touting on a massive scale and it prevented real sports fans from attending such events.”

any chance of the multiple accounts that are let destroy the comments section of this particular post every day being banned? the person behind them is clearly mentally ill, and their presence ruins what could be a place for good discussion and debate on the headlines.

You seem perfectly happy to remove posts suggesting you only post videos from a certain talentless fool in return for money, in fact one of my accounts has been blocked for commenting, i presume for this reason.

So maybe do a bit of necessary housekeeping, or you know just let the site go down the toilet. either works.

Brian, praise the thankless transcribing of RTE chats, the tying of old news together for tragedy timelines, the graphed-up Michael Taft, William Campbell’s Here’s Now and the click bait womb ownership sagas, BS is always on the cusp of the u-bend. Expect less and be rewarded thus.

    Deleted quote from The Times front pic;

“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”
