Well, certainly I can’t speak for all the protesters, but I gather Clare Daly is in gainful employment and from what I have seen, is active and courageous in her job.

It started at half six, not the afternoon. A lot of people are off work by then and it’s not exactly a long walk to Berkeley street from town now is it?

It started at half six, which is not the afternoon. Lots of people are off work by then and it’s not exactly a long walk to Berkeley street from town now is it? Plenty of time to get there after work.

And it was fixed to start at 6.30pm to allow the legitimate clinic next door deal (honestly) with people and give those that needed its services the privacy and discretion they needed.

Ah the Pro-Life lobby, extremists funded by Right-Wing American catholics.

And yet nobody seems to be questioning where these guys are getting their money from to fund their expensive campaigns.

      1. The Real Jane

        Very few answers though.

I also didn’t get an answer to my question about the no doubt extensive and well thought out manifesto you eighthers have for protecting and supporting vulnerable women.

        Many questions. So many questions.

        No answers.

I can’t help thinking that if there was a “smoking gun” re funding that someone would have exposed it by now. I dunno.

Didn’t the anti abortionists get whiny about the Oz rose supporting abortion rights, saying it was none of her business? Did you guys not also say similar about corporations backing marriage equality? How do you reconcile that with all the foreign money you use?

      2. louislefronde

You’re right people do question it. Let me rephrase, those whose job it is to question where the Pro-Life lobby gets their money from, aren’t following up on it.

Yes, of course, journalists. Maybe even some of the ones who comment here.

Though it’s interesting the Pro-Choice lobby hasn’t sought to explore this further, too.
Though perhaps there is less difference between the Pro-Choice and Pro-Life side than one might expect. Is there some sort of omertà against looking at funding sources for the other’s campaign?

I’ve written to SIPO about their – YD and IONA – funding on a number of occasions. In fairness to SIPO they are great at explaining why they cannot do much about it presently…. but there have been efforts, and more coming to give SIPO greater powers to compel lobby goups, and interest groups to conform to rules…….. the sooner the better.

Remember too, and please tell RTE with emails or tweets or whatever…. When YD or IONA demand places at the debating table, they can be refused by RTE for not conforming to SIPO’s “voluntary” rules.

I only wish RTE would do so, it would require more than just myself telling them though…..

        “Something something balance”

If they don’t have the prolie side on, they spend the next 3 days spouting about being “silenced” through their columns in national newspapers.

Very pleased to see direct action since the minister clearly is going to take his time and deal with this matter in due course, in the fullness of time, when the tides dictate, wind and weather permitting…

She is indeed a great lady.
They should laud her Phibsborough protest by naming the local football stadium after her.

It ‘s great to see the momentum building around this. I hope it pays off.

yes, there’s always the worry that it’s going to fade until the next incident but people are sustaining the pressure. g’wan the Daly!

That’s what I thought but there must be sterling work going on to keep it up. And I think that’s what’s needed, more discussion about the realities from “normal” women will help as well. I don’t think people are nearly as black and white on this issue as some claim. That would be a good place to start in terms of discussion I guess.

Normally Lorcan pops into these threads to update people but haven’t seen him in a while.

I’m still around, I’m just perenially a day behind so I’m a bit late to join in the comments. A lot of that is because organising the March for Choice is a lot of hard work, and ARC are flat out right now! 24th of September, Garden of Rememberance, 1.30PM. Sadly, we’re on the same loooong route as last year, but we’re going to have a meeting point near the Custom House for anyone who wants to join in but can’t do the full route, and they can join the march as we pass.

    1. The Real Jane

Well of course, the flippant answer is that they met endlessly stupid adult babies like you, giving all babies a bad name.

  4. Rob_G

I’m in favour of free speech, and understand that these people have their beliefs that abortion is wrong, and that they should be able to make them know – but presenting untruthful (medical) information to vulnerable people should be subject to criminal charges, like practicing medicine without a licence would.

  5. Limey Tank

If only they spent their money supporting the children and creating a society where people didn’t feel they needed abortions.

  6. AssPants

I really hope this Eighty Amendment goes through, as most of the women I know are sick of having to que for the morning after on a Monday, they feel like crap after having to kill off the unwanted. You know what women are like they can’t be trusted to go full term and especially after a weekend in Coppers…

If only the pro-lifers would listen up they might begin to understand that abortion is only for the loose women of this country….. And not for the good Catholic women (whom visit confession every week for their impure thoughts and sailors vocabulary) or whom genuinely need help for whatever their difficult circumstances may be. As terrifying and difficult it must be to have to make the journey to undergo such a trying procedure to enable the women and respective partners to get on with their lives.
